Phone contract credit check

You can pay online without speaking to anyone.
They would only credit check you for a new contract, not to change payment method.
I'm transferring ownership of an account. It was a joint one with my parents, but now I'm getting my own one. I called and they said that I need to make a new account and get a credit check, so I can set the account up myself online but they'll, apparently, need to call me for the check.0 -
Why has it taken over 10 posts for that vital bit of information to crop up?0

OP if they say changing ownership - check you get that in writing because sometimes they just give you a new contract, hence the credit check, then you pay for you new contract only to find years later that your old contract was not closed correctly and you get chased for airtime debt.0 -
Yes, I called Vodafone and they eventually said can we have your details to run a credit check, so I didn't want to go ahead with it just in case something goes wrong (because I've only just received my first credit card).
I just wanted to tell you that you should always ask if they want to perform a HARD search or SOFT search. Even when opening a new current account, some banks do a hard search while some only do soft search.
Soft searches don't really matter. Only you can see them on your credit file later. Hard searches on the other hand, can be seen by other lenders when they check your credit file, and may (temporarily) lower your creditworthiness. However, one hard search at a time has very little (if any) impact, but if you have several searches within a short period of time (say, four searches in 1-2 months), that may look bad in the eyes of potential lenders.0 -
I pay my O2 bill by card every month and I’ve never been charged.0

Having had a look at Vodafone's terms and conditions they charge for things like paper bills, late payments and account transfers but there's no mention of being charged extra for paying by credit card over a direct debit. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0
