Ive got current accounrs with 7 different banks & have never been asked for proof of income.
Dont yet have HSBC, but was planning on switching one of my Tesco ones once the interest drops so going by comments on here, thats something to look forward to.0 -
Why would it be fraud? I had abandoned current account applications twice, and I don't have any marks on my credit report other than the credit search.
I think what he's getting at is the fact the bank might see it as they questioned the signature, you then abandon the application because you are not that customer, thus marking it as fraud.0 -

If that's the way they thought, it would seem to me like a self-defeating argument - if the bank believed that the person making the application isn't the one to whom all the ID applies, they could only apply any sanction to the (innocent) latter rather than the (guilty) former!
I agree, just saying what I thought the original comment meant.0 -
I think, I read here before about someone abandoning application and the bank decided it was fraud attempt. Maybe it was credit card.0

My guess is that it's HSBC who once took so long to open a credit card for me the application expired on their system and I had to reapply.0

I vote for HSBC too...0

My HSBC switching offer ran out before all the paperwork completed. At that time they were paying £150 + £50 a year later.
I phoned up to complain and they credited my account with £200 right away, so I didn't have to wait for the extra £50.
I'd be very surprised with OP if they add an expired offer to a much later account opening, regardless of what they said - not without another fight anyway.0 -
Maybe that's why HSBC think First Direct is such an amazing customer service offering because their own service is so dire. They would do better running one brand well. I like Nationwide and Santander but only use HSBC for bare minimum where their offer is compelling enough.0
