Is this just available in Wales?
Apparently not, according to the link in the opening post.By law, someone who has been medically certified as having a permanent condition that affects their intelligence and social functioning - eg, dementia (including Alzheimer's) or severe learning difficulties, but many other conditions may apply - can be 'disregarded for council tax purposes' in England, Scotland and Wales - in a similar way that students are, for example
Maybe MSE have found out that people living in Wales are having more problems claiming this than people living in Scotland and England and want to follow up.0 -
The SMI disregard (and associated exemption) is part of the council tax schemes of England, Scotland and Wales. Is this just available in Wales?I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
