MoneySavers, MSE needs your help!
If you have applied for the ‘Severely Mentally Impaired’ (SMI) council tax discount from a council in Wales, we would love to hear from you.
Since 2016, we have been raising awareness of a little-known council tax discount worth around £400 a year. For more information on how to claim, visit this guide.
If you live in (or have lived in) Wales and have applied for the ‘Severely Mentally Impaired’ (SMI) council tax discount, we want to hear how it went. By sharing your experiences we can hopefully help other people and make a massive difference to their lives.
Some of the things we want to know are:
• Were you successful with your application for the discount?
• If so, what impact has the discount had on your life since?
• If not, what was the reason given?
• Which Welsh council did you apply to?

Is it just me or is the wording on the heading a little unfortunate?0

My mother was awarded Attendance Allowance in December 2017. She died of advanced stage dementia in March 2018. I knew about the discount but had never got round to claiming it but when she died and I had cause to ring the local authority I asked about it and they sent me a form which I completed and took to her GP as there was a part they had to complete also. I managed to get a refund (25%) from the December to the March. It was quite straightforward and the Local authority were very helpful.0

Hi, we aren't big fans of the discount's name but in the law, that's what it's called, so we have to be clear.
MoneySavers, please do post if you've any experience claiming the discount in Wales.
I think he means that it slightly suggests that everybody Welsh would fit this description..0 -
I'm Welsh but must admit that I have never heard of this discount.0

Can we mute this 'announcement'. from every forum please, it is a bit domineering. Not Welsh, not disabled, never heard of the grant.0

[STRIKE]The headline implies that only Welsh people can apply, whereas in fact its anyone* who lives in Wales and pays council tax, they may not be Welsh.
*Unless its an astonishingly discriminatory law !
