Does MSE Energy Club Cover all suppliers and Tarrifs?

I always usually stay with my current supplier usually but as I've recently moved and on a British Gas Temporary 2019 tariff. So did a comparison. USwitch have EoN as one of the top suppliers that would save me £300 a year. But it doesn't appear on the Energy Club comparison.

Even checked compare the market and Eon was on there too. Just worried if it's not on MSE and worried I might get stung on higher tarrif than I'm on currently.

Using my post-code the cheapest electricity deal by far at the moment is Symbio Energy 12 month Fixed tariff;...it’s been the cheapest for a few weeks now but doesn’t figure anywhere on MSE Cheap Energy Club.

Citizens Advice Comparison Tool/Energylinx shows Symbio at the top of the charts,...so why not on MSE Cheap Energy Club?

If MSE Cheap Energy Club isn’t displaying the best deals then what’s the bleedin’ point!

Unless there is a good reason why they aren’t displaying SymbioEnergy of course.:doh:

in many cases the lowest companies do not show

That isn’t (or certainly shouldn’t be) the case with MSE.

Any comparison site that doesn’t offer a ‘Whole of Market’ option must provide (embedded within their website in a very prominent position!) a direct link to the Citizens Advice Comparison Tool.

That procedure is mandated by OFGEM,...unless something has changed recently.:eek:

MSE uses https://www.moneysupermarket.com
Didn't see SymbioEnergy there. Are they electric only? Do they cover all regions of the UK? Do they even do residential?
If MSE should list but don't it's probably due to their incompetence (or moneysupermarket) rather than deliberate action; remember - always use at least 2 comparison sites.

I think that you will not see some deals.


Some non-standard tariffs are unique to a specific website. Think of it like the MSE "Big Switch" events, other sites don't list those.


I just went through a few comparisons from https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/consumers/household-gas-and-electricity-guide/how-switch-energy-supplier-and-shop-better-deal/compare-gas-and-electricity-tariffs-ofgem-accredited-price-comparison-sites and found that they gave slightly different results.


Also check filters on the Energy Club search to make sure it list everything.

For reference, uSwitch says I can save £72 a year by switching (Outfox), and Energy Club says I can save £56 a year by switching (Outfox).


Both of them show me the exact same plan after I switch, exact same usage, same exit fee. Both show my current rates, but uSwitch rounds the standing charge to 2 decimal places. Neither site seems to calculate my yearly usage using the yearly usage value I provide them. Perhaps the sites use some fuzzy math to assume slight changes in usage, all I know is that it makes the overall comparisons between comparison sites worse.

When I switch I tend to compare with multiple sites, and then look at the day rate and kwh charges to see if the sites match up. If you don't use much energy then the day rates can be killer to you too, so be careful of that.

Setting the filter to show the ‘Whole of Market’ is all well and good;...however, you can set or re-set whatever filters you like but Cheap Energy Club does not display the cheapest fixed tariff nationally available electricity deal around at the moment from SymbioEnergy.

There is nothing special about the SymbioEnergy deal (it’s been around for weeks) and it’s not specific to any particular/selected price comparison sites. As I’ve said earlier SymbioEnergy figures prominently on the Citizens Advice Comparison website and others,...but not on MSE Cheap Energy Club.

If MSE Cheap Energy Club isn’t showing the cheapest Electricity fixed tariff deal then you have to think what else is being omitted?,...and what is the point of using it? :doh:

IMHO, the Citizens Advice Comparison website should be the first port of call for anyone looking for accurate current tariffs,...and then branch out from there if you are seeking cash-back or comparison site specific tariffs.

The Citizens Advice comparison Tool site is unique amongst the price comparison sites;...it only ever displays the ‘Whole of Market’ and they do not receive commission from any energy suppliers,...nor do they offer cash-back.

Strange. It's not on MSE because its not listed on moneysupermarket (where MSE gets its data from). Perhaps MSE should switch its data provider?

Not sure MSE can change data provider considering MSE is owned by MoneySupermarket;...they paid Mr Lewis almost £100M a few years ago.

Can’t imagine Martin Lewis is overly concerned about saving a few quid on HIS energy bills. :money:

I saw Martin on TV this morning, but did not catch all that he said about switching to British gas from British gas standard, eg. there is a lower tariff. He mentioned it can only be done via comparison site? Which site is the best to switch or how is it done - thanks, it was early on ITV and I was rushing around...
