Possible Joint Water Supply?

Mrs Mum only owns this house and DIL owns the house behind.
Did she buy the land from DIL? You are buying a freehold property?0 -
How good are you at dowsing? (Interestingly children can be very good at it, not suffering any preconceived ideas.) It's not the usual behaviour from a would be buyer but you are not in a usual situation.
I'm pretty certain the buyer won't want you digging holes before committing to buy but may be cooperative over researches so long as the making good is thorough.
Very best of luck!0 -
Have you checked the drawings for building regs
Are the architect's drawings actually with Council Planning?
My house is built on the former orchard of the house in the next road down. (The end of my garden backs on to the end of its garden.)
The father (a local builder) of the previous owner bought the orchard and obtained PP to build a single dwelling house on it which he made over to his daughter as a wedding gift.
I obtained a copy of the plans from our local Council and the water and drainage etc are shown.
They are definitely not connected to the house below so I have been paying my own water bills all these years, alas....:)0 -

To be frank, I've no idea. The property is definitely freehold though. Are the architect's drawings actually with Council Planning?

Haha, regretfully I'm flying away on business tomorrow for a week - I'll see what drawings the solicitor has on my return so that we may draw some conclusions.
My fear is the fact the water board has no account for the property  (which led me to consider the coincidences of no reference meter and a property owned by the ex-builders family behind).
To be honest though, I appreciate everyone's input. I guess I will have to see what drawings I can get and see what the solicitors come back with. I'm more preparing myself for the inevitable scenario the house has a joint supply and the ways to rectify.Know what you don't0 -

Very punny!:)0 -
As an update;
So the seller has confirmed that whilst the house being put in there was a seperate water installation.
After enquiring with the water board, it now appears no account was ever registered and water hasn't been paid for in over 10 years!
Good for me I guess but an inevitable can of worms for the Mrs Mum & Mrs DIL...Know what you don't0
