We would love a stopover in Singapore but the whole trip is very cost conscious.o

If you get a good ticket price with Singapore Airlines, look out for their Singapore Stopover deals.

As already stated, Singapore doesn't have to be expensive at all. Particularly if you are prepared to eat with the locals in the hawker centres. We usually do.

I’ve often flown UK to Oz return and always picked the shortest time possible in Economy on a reputable airline. I just want to get there and 24 hours sat in a seat is an acceptable discomfort I bear with to get the trip over as quickly as possible.

That way the flight becomes a chore - for a straight through journey we found booking a long connection time in Singapore (8-10 hours or so) and using the transit hotel is brilliant - you get a proper bed in a dark quiet room where you can get a good kip and then you might even enjoy the flights! Transit hotel is quite cheap and you don't go through immigration/customs/collect bags etc, you're airside all the time

I've flown to Australia (Melbourne) a few times, and Royal Brunei is virtually always cheaper, their Dreamliner planes are amazing, inflight entertainment good and meals are varied. I don't think you can beat the cabin staff - they are lovely. Check out Seat Guru for aircraft comparisons. Worth considering if Melbourne is your destination.

I agree with you about the Dreamliners. We flew Premium Economy with Norwegian to Buenos Aires and the plane was lovely. The larger windows make it seem very spacious indeed.

    hello Leo

So you're looking at Economy, rather than Premium Economy ?
Stopover at Singapore on way out, way back or both ways ? & how long a stopover do you fancy ?
Could you set off from Newcastle, Glasgow, Edinburgh or Birmingham if it was easier on the pocket ?
What is your idea of a good fare ?

Finally, its a fallacy that the OTA's/airlines adjust their prices if you do repeated searches (although some people will insist that it is true)

Is £1585 Man -Sin (23hr stopover) - Bne, Bne-Sin (20hr stopover)-Man, booked direct with Singapore Airlines the sort of thing you are looking at ? (you'll get 1.6% cashback if you book via Quidco)

£1585 is a huge amount for Australia. There's no real reason to pay more than £1000, and it's regularly available for significantly less than that too. E.g. I just tried some random dates and London to Brisbane return was £537 in November - I don't doubt they'd be a similar price for 12 months time if you wait. In fact, it's under £800 including a stop in Singapore next February.

Out of curiosity, what was the price you were really happy with booking on the day it was released? I've never seen a cheap price booked that far in advance (in fact, that's one of the most expensive times to book for most airlines - maybe you got lucky?).

It is a lot for the dates mentioned. About half as much again as I paid for peak period Christmas 2019 flights on SIA (to Perth).

£1585 was for 2 people (as per the OP's post), not for 1

I paid £1982 for return Business Class to Auckland, flying out in Dec, back in Jan, booked on the day that the tickets became available - the exact itinerary is now £3754 and is currently going up on a weekly basis. For the past 4 years I've booked as early as possible and I've not failed to come out of it well financially

Ah! That makes more sense. I booked the day the return flights became available. Included preferred seats on all four legs (of the journey).

Checked business class and premium economy on the same flights but both were silly money.

Whoops sorry, completely missed that and thought a family was going over!

That's a not a bad price if it originates in the UK. I guess the pricing logic is different for business and economy then (and perhaps Christmas).
