buyers and stated measurements

It can't be just be can it - are buyers now unable to read a size when it is stated clearly in the description?

In the past 2 months I won an SNAD as buyer claimed item was mush bigger than expected - ebay closed it straight away in my favour as measurements were shown clearly in item specifics and description.

I had another buyer email to say she was pleased with her widget but I might need to show the scale better as the photo made it look larger than it was (again measurements in both item specifics and description in both metric and imperial), and I had a positive feedback last week saying item nice but larger than expected.

This week I had someone from facebook come to collect an item and decide against it as they had expected it to be bigger (you guessed it full measurements given) and I've just had a Shpock buyer change their mind as they thought it was bigger - and they said that measurements are funny things as 12 inches or 30 cms don't mean much to most people- and it would be better if I put a coca cola can in the picture as everyone would then know how big my items were.

Have we really got to the stage where measurements are variable depending on what people 'see' and that it is more normal to size everything up by using a fizzy drink can?

It reminds me of the stuff on Reddit where people moan they got a dolls house chair instead of a real one as they didn't notice the measurements.

Some people are just thick and won't take responsibility for their own stupidity.

Saying that, I bought a dress once that was listed as a size 10. When it arrived it was actually size "age 12", so although I could get into it, it barely covered my bum!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

But then some people would use 100ml cans to make their items appear bigger

I feel your pain, I've stopped selling on Ebay because of the entitled idiots who want to return something because it apparently has a flaw or doesn't work. I've made bespoke items to a customer size spec, and they have still complained that "it's bigger than I thought" like they cannot use a tape measure.
I've also had items that do not work, when it arrives back it's fine, sometimes just needs switching on!

I did have a chuckle at the chap who complained about receiving a dolls house leather chesterfield sofa instead of the full sized one he had expected - despite the correct size being listed and the postage fee of just £2.95!

And some buyers would complain their item didn't come with the coke can.

Mind you I have just had a nice result. Marketplace buyer came to collect a widget, one of several I listed this morning and said he was more interested in a similar larger item but needed to see them both together so he could judge which he preferred size wise. I was expecting to be messed around, but I showed him both items, he bought the larger and overpaid me as he said I had not asked enough for it.
I don't think anyone has ever overpaid me before!

    Overpaid ?!?! Blimey.

I used ebay a lot for repeat sales business but also use Facebook for clearing out at home. So many people say "where are you" or "how many have you got" when its all in the description and there is a map of where I am.

You can guarantee if they cant be bothered to read the description or look at the map to see where you are then they are definitely not going to be bothered to come and buy it.

And don't get me started on "can you deliver?"... "yes of course i would love to spend some of the little time I have between a part time office job, part time ebay business and looking after 2 kids to drive 30 miles to give you something that costs £15..."

I'm not a seller, but I have bought from e-bay - mostly dolls house miniatures. Some of the items are pictured next to a coin for sizing, and the description usually states that 'coin is not included in sale'. Must be a reason for that....
