Do I need a new mattress?

  • I’m right near the Hypnos factory showroom. I should go and take a look. Anyone been before?

We went to ikea today, nothing stood out as amazingly comfortable (even their top of the range one) also went to loaf and very disappointed in their mattress despite them being £945!

We have a double Hypnos natural fibre pocket sprung mattress in our guest room and a king size Harrison natural fibre pocket sprung mattress in our room. We went for natural fibre mattresses as 'him indoors' gets too warm at night. The Hypnos cost half the price of the Harrison and I have to say I find the Hypnos to be much more comfortable. The Hypnos is on a slatted base and the Harrison on a sprung slatted base ... which may make a difference. The Harrison is so heavy it's a two person job to turn it over with the seasons!

we bought a Simba memory foam mattress last year with the 100 day trial, and we love it..

I think i saw on HotUKDeals yesterday they're doing refurbished (no idea what a refurbished mattress is like) for about £170 or £200, instead of the £700 i think we paid

    Found it:

Your can always spend a night on a Hypnos mattress for not too much money! Premier Inn uses them and you can buy the same model at https://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/why/sleep/buy-our-bed.html.
  • I contacted feather and black who I bought the mattress from and they have told me the mattress only comes with a 3 year guarantee!

Looks like I will be buying a new one elsewhere
  • I found out that Harrison make feather and black ones so seeing as I’ve not been too impressed I will be going Hypnos next time

We travelled from Bedford to look and try out the beds at Prices Risborough as our local retailers did not have what we were looking for. Very nice bunch of people there. NO pressure to sell at all (you can buy there, but at the full price plus delivery) and you're allowed / encouraged to take as much time as you like. Also know their products (and the 'specials' made for some retailers and hotel chains from their contract beds ranges).

Castle Donnington is the contract bed factory I believe (more machine, less hand made).

Others in there had been back multiple times while they tried them and made up their minds and seemed to be welcome to do so.

Ended up buying a pillow top divan with sprung base from an online retailer. Got a big label on the mattress 'Hand made in 2019. Replace by 2029'.

To be frank even a '10 year warranty' on a mattress is often on a reducing scale and subject to many caveats regardless. https://www.hypnosbeds.com/uk/your-bed/guarantee-details Their Premier Inn bed is aiui machine made and only has a 5 year warranty.
