Do you leave anywhere near Ellesmere Port??

Hi,,

My husband found a new job in Frodsham, Cheshire and we now have to move up there quickly. We look into Frodsham and Helsby and you don't get much for your money. However we had a look at the areas surrounding Ellesmere Port like Great Sutton, Little Sutton and Whitby and you can get way more for your money as it is a cheaper area. I have to admit that I wasn't in love with Ellesmere Port but these surrounding areas are close enough from it to be handy but not too close.

We saw a few houses we liked in Great Sutton and Whitby but we don't really know what to do as we don't know what the areas are like that's why I'd like some opinions of people who know them.

We also have a little girl who is meant to start Primary school soon so schools are really important.

I'd really appreciate any advices

Thanks

  • Oh my goodness, Frodsham is my hometown?!

Where's your husband going to be working?

If you're interested in good value, I'd look across the bridge towards Widnes and Warrington. Good schools and excellent transport links.
  • Hi,

We would have looked the Widnes and Warrington way but my hubby doesn't like it there and he thinks that the bridge in the morning would be chokka block!!

Loved Frodsham though there is such a nice kind of rural feel about it but I don't think that we'll get what we want for our money. We have about 200K to spend and you can only get a semi-detached 3 bed with a garden but in the Ellesmere Port area you can get a 3 bed semi with garden, conservatory, playroom ... and it would suit our family life better and it would also be closer to my husband family who live in Wallassey.

I used to live in Ellesmere Port - not in a hurry to move back.

You could try checking out Hope Farm or Little Sutton. IIRC Little Sutton is okay and quite rural. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong but I think there is something called https://www.upmystreet . com which would give you some idea.

On no account go anywhere near Stanney Grange and Wolverham.
    Always another chapter

  • Thanks for that Hev,

I had a look at Upmystreet but it's always better to hear it from people who actually know the area.

We'll be looking at Little Sutton but what do you reckon about Great Sutton and Whitby??
  • Norwich start to be a little far from hubby's parents though that's the only thing.

There are some lovely homes in Great Sutton and Whitby, but don't go too far down Underwood Drive, try further up at the Whitby end of Overpool Road or Chester Road.

Some of the houses in Great Sutton are lovely, new and spacious. There are some 'less desirable' streets, but it is not too bad. Don't get too near Sutton Way and you should find something really nice.

I hope you find something nice soon.

BTW if you have a look round Rivacre, and pick your place, you are really near the motorway and I think that's the nicest area near the motorway I can think of.

I know this may sound obvious, but do stay away from the Grace Road/Westminster Road area by the docks.

And don't forget to look round the Outlet Village :j

    Come to Wales!!!

    Cheaper Houses
    Good Schools
    etc etc
  • Thanks Hev, will definatly follow your advice. We saw a house we like in Baker Drive (kinda between Chester road and Overpool Road) do you know the area by any chance??

Al Mac there are lovely stuff in Frodsham but it's just that you can get more for your money nearer Ellesmere Port but then again it's not as a nice area but at the moment I am coming from a small terrace home that we were lucky to have make money on so I am looking for quite a bigger place as it would be our next house for the next 10 years or so.

Would love Wales but a bit far from work though ;-)
  • Have you looked at Chester?

Easy access to M53 and M56, only about 10 minutes from Ellesmere Port, Frodsham not to far.

Should be able to pick up something decent for 200K. Look at CH3 postcodes (Vicars Cross, Huntington, Boughton) or Hoole (CH2).

I'm sure Ellesmere Port has its good areas but I hated my 2 years living there.
