And to add to the OP's issues, do Currys PC World still do that thing where they use a special model number on electrical items that only exists for their stock systems so it's harder to do the price match?

Or did someone in regulator world finally wake up and give them a good kick in the bottom for that one?
    Yes, they do.

Already knew the model number from the TV I wanted. So searched by the model number on all sites, many places don't stock this model of tv, they stock its brother TV, which would have been plan B.
  • Went into Currys at the weekend for the first time in years since I sent them a complaint about a barbed wire enema being preferable to dealing with them again, to buy a nylon non stick spatula (in my defence I've no idea where else to buy them and I absolutely love the dammed things so I wanted more than the one I've got).

Got to the till with said spatula and a matching round spoon spatula that I'd thought I'd treat myself to given I was having such a wonderful day and the spotty oik serving me actually asked me if I wanted to take out insurance. He kinda trailed off when he saw the look I was giving him which was a combination of resting !!!!! face and "if you don't shut your gob I'm going to shove this spatula somewhere creative". I paid, minus insurance, and left, good mood still intact.

btw spatulas are still wonderful and they're PINK! :-)

They don't stock it because it's a model that is made specifically for curry's to try and stop you comparing it with other retails, the other similar model will have exactly the same specification.

But a 50" 4K TV at that price point is at the budget end of the range so there won't have been much difference in picture quality and features from other big name manufacturers.
  • My late wife & I bought a tv from the store some 5 month ago, having to repeatedly decline the offered additional product insurance, to the degree of rising anger, against the three salespeople surrounding us.
Following the recent passing of my wife I finally got around to checking my bank account and was puzzled to see a sum withdrawn each of the last months. After learning how to "dig in" to the bank info for details I discovered it was for insurance for the new television, so I called the company and after the usual extended wait while being bombarded with their "offers", I finally spoke to a human who immediately offered to return my money. No explanation as to why it was being taken. No sorry for the error.
In due course a cheque arrived but no explanation of how or why insurance money was being taken when we had specifically declined their proposal.
I feel that at the very least an explanation should have been included as to how this can occur. What steps they intend to take to prevent this from happening again.
How can companies be allowed to take money or set up monthly payments for services that are not purchased?
One group of stores where I will never spend my money again.
