How do I know what nationwide account I have?

Options
I had a nationwide flex-basic for many years. I upgraded my account to a flex-account last Sunday and got accepted, this was online. I'm still waiting for my debit card to arrive.. On my online statement it says my account is a flex-account, does this means its been accepted and I actually have a flex-account and not the flex-basic anymore?

For goodness sake, how quickly do you expect a new card to arrive? Today is only the fourth working day. These things aren't instant! If it says Flexaccount online, that's what you have. Just show a little patience, please!

If it used to say flex-basic and this has changed to flex then it would reasonable to assume that the account has changed from flex-basic to flex.

Are you sure OP you will actually get a new card? Sometimes if you just upgrade the account but keep the same sort code and account number you can still use the old one until it expires.
  • I had email saying they'll send me a new card. I'm keeping the same sort code and account number, that is correct.

Normally Nationwide send you a new debit card when changing the type of current account even if the sort code and account number remain the same
  • Then yes it’s correct and you just need to wait for the new card.

PS not sure if you have a cheque book but you will not receive a new cheque book you can still use the old cheques even though they may well say flexbasic printed on them just as long as the account number and sort code remain the same for your new account
  • I've had an unused Flex Basic account for years and the debit card expired in 2016 (it still has a small amount of money in it). They never sent me a new one probably due to me not using the account for donkeys.

Anyway, last night I logged into the internet banking for the first time since 2011. Will they automatically send me a new card now that I have accessed the account or will I still need to request one?

    You'll need to request one

@OP: If your account type has updated in online banking then it's highly likely that the change is effective - they should write to you to let you know, but it should operate as expected. Nationwide has differently branded cards for each different account type, so I would expect a new card to be arriving sometime within 10 working days of whenever your account was upgraded - you'll just have to wait unfortunately.
