I've never bought a house with carpets I'd want to keep. They were the first things to go . .

    Yeah, other people’s carpets :-/
The only place I have carpets is the stairs and landing and the master bedroom.

I have carpets in lounge and bedrooms. Vinyl in kitchen, bathroom and hall way.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

I'm with post 15. We lashed out £2k and had engineered oak witg a brushed, oiled finish fitted in a large through lounge, diner and hall (with a big coco matting in a well across the porch)

Looks and feels brilliant five years on. We no longer even use the big rug...

Hard flooring in hallway, tiles in bathroom and kitchen but most definitely carpet in living room (even with 2 mogs). Personally I find it warmer and more cozy. It's one of those areas that fashion can't dictate!

When I moved to this house 20 years ago I hated the hard floors. Now I am in the process of changing all the carpets back to hard floors ! How times and life change ! Carpets seemed nicer with children sitting on the floor. Now we have animals and the carpets seem to be a dirt trap and the new hard floors so much easier to keep clean. I would love wood but it's expensive and not sure if it would scratch or stain so we have vinyl planks that look like wood , so easy and I think they look smart.

I think the only place I will keep carpet will be stairs and landing for safety issues as hard floors are slippery.

I would love rugs but one of our rescue dogs has been trained to use puppy pads and can't tell the difference !:eek:
