No idea why people take amex.

It has its pros and cons. If you only like to have one card in your wallet and only spend small amounts occasionally on it, you probably won't derive much from having one. Some places still don't take it but acceptance is much better than it once was.

I'm of the view that Amex genuinely does enable a nicer standard of travel. Without one I wouldn't have been able to travel in Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines First/Suites Class cabins from Asia to London. Paying £25 in cash and points that were generated largely for free to be waited on hand and foot with 10(!) course meals comprising caviar, lobster, steak and other delightful dishes served with Dom Perignon and Blue Mountain coffee which are both quite nice. Given even the cheapest economy class ticket costs a lot more than that I think it's a worthwhile thing to have in the wallet.

The points also help to take advantage of Reward Flight Saver redemption, which offer £35 returns on the BA network within Europe, offer a good value, civilised travel experience in comparison to some not so "low cost" airlines.

Obviously some of these things won't appeal to everyone and there's the "not missing what you never had" argument. But ultimately it allows a privileged standard of travel for prices that are often lower than what you'll pay for economy.

That's why I use Amex and I'm sure others have their own reasons.

Just be aware. The "lounges" are pay for use lounges.

To be honest I find the kerb outside the airport a nicer place to spend some time.

You find sitting on a concrete slab outside with the smokers a nicer place than a lounge with buffets, unlimited drinks, comfy chairs etc etc?

If so, I really don't think you're the target for this card!
