Internet Explorer 7 - Worth Upgrading?

  • You can't use Windows Update without IE but that's the only reason you should use it.

Not strictly true, because there is a plugin for FF users who really don't want to use IE, called windizupdate

I've only recently installed it, and may need a bit of help in configuring it.

Despite the multiple tabs facility, links open in a new window not tab, even when using the right-click menu and selecting tab. Tools > Interent Options > Settings is on the default settings except that I swapped the open pop-ups to open in a new tab.

Have you checked the tab settings under the above menu?

Sorry I was ambiguous; those are the settings I meant.

And they all suggest a new tab should open, but I get a new window instead

Strange. Maybe you should try reinstalling, can't think of any reason in the settings it won't allow you to open new tabs at all.
