Thanks for all your replys. I had to remove Comodo in the end, as no matter what I did it wouldn't allow me internet access

Might have a go again later when I have my thinking head on :rotfl:

I haven't used Comodo as it's not compatible with Vista yet but normally with a firewall you install it and by default it blocks everything. Then when you start a program if it needs Internet access you get an alert saying "program X" needs internet access. You then click to allow it and there should be an option to always allow it so next time it will just work.

If Comodo is no good you could try Zone Alarm, I have used this on XP and Vista and it works fine. Kerio is another popular free firewall.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

    Hi,

been using it for a while now and no probs, don't seem to get a lot of updates though, is that good or bad?

If you get lots of updates then youc ould potentiall view it as having lots of bugs/vulnerabilites that constantly need fixing so it could work either way.

if you go to teh comodo forums there is a ctually a Beta test forum where you can download new versions as they are released and help test them. All this feedback is then captured and further enhancements changes are rolled into the next release. Which accoridng to their forums V3 is about to be released between November 18-24th so you could well have an update notification pop up soon.
  • I too have been using Comodo for about a year no problems at all it works well,I used to use Zone alarm until it became fussy after an upgrade.

Me too, except for me it was about a year ago when zonealarm introduced the 3rd party mail frontier software which messed up my Outlook and there's no way of choosing to not install it or uninstalling it separately.

  • This user likes it too. Its interface is easy to get around, and actions such as adding trusted zones is simple. It passes all the usual stealth tests and has a nice small footprint on your pc, not taking masses of RAM away from it to run

    Thumbs up from me
  • I have found it to be a bit buggy, at times, it reports X is trying to access the internet, when it is actually Y. It does the job, but seems to get it's index mixed up. Some of the warning messages are probably beyond most users (and my) understanding, so they will probably allow them anyway, which defeats the object of outbound protection. They used to have a connection screen that allow you to drop a port connection, that appears to have vanished in the latest version.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

Have to admit that I find Eset's firewall much simpler and even smaller (resource use) than Comodo. Of course you have to pay for the Eset suite but I can see that the free firewalls aren't the best but I still consider Comodo to be one if not the best free firewall.
