Another account with a derisory rate. Although it has to be said that it does pay twice as much as the OP currently gets
I assume that you are referring to the Access Saver. This is a passbook based account which, as far as I can see, does not offer an ATM card.
The Online Saver offers an optional ATM card and pays 0.75% so three times the OP's current rate.0 -
You assume wrong. We were talking about the cash card saver account. You are right, though, they do also offer an instant access Internet Saver that pays 0.75%. Still hugely below what can be had in other accounts which also offer instant access and a card, one way or the other.I assume that you are referring to the Access Saver. Savings accounts allowing cash withdrawal via ATMs are quite uncommon, so BoI are just falling into line with the rest of the industry, inconvenient though it may be.
Do you have any other accounts, a current account in particular? Not having a current account would also be quite unusual (not unique though) but if that's the case and you wish to open one with BoI then you may be able to apply for a BoI one through their online portal, but their comment about using this to send money elsewhere was assuming that another account is already in place.
There are plenty of current accounts out there offering a range of perks (https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/compare-best-bank-accounts/) but, reading between the lines maybe, if you have no current account then perhaps you may not be eligible for some/any of these and may need to set sights lower (https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/basic-bank-accounts/).
No I do not have any other accounts only a saver account . I did have another one 3-4 years ago but I closed it as I had to move money via 365 online banking from it to the saver account to withdraw cash0 -
If you don't mind me asking, why don't you have a current account? No I do not have any other accounts only a saver account . I did have another one 3-4 years ago but I closed it as I had to move money via 365 online banking from it to the saver account to withdraw cash
What do you do with earnings from employment or benefits and how do you pay bills for example?
While it may be possible to do everything via cash at the moment, this is likely to become increasingly difficult as time goes on, so rather than simply seeking a replacement savings account that allows access to cash via ATMs, IMHO it would be worth looking into getting a proper current account with debit card and so on....0 -

Because I have got on fine with the saver account . My wages are paid in to it and I use my cash card to withdraw cash in the Post Office I pay my rent in cash to my landlord and that includes all household bills Gas . electrics etc etc0 -
Fair enough - it's obviously entirely your prerogative to manage your finances in a way that works for you.Because I have got on fine with the saver account . My point was really that choosing to do so in a way that's becoming increasingly unusual means that your choice of suitable products will continue to decline, so simply replacing your card-equipped savings account on a straight like-for-like basis may be possible for now (with a different bank), but don't be surprised if you need to repeat the same process again in the future....0 -

You could still do that with a standard current account.====0
