Withdrawal of my cash card ? Help

Options
I got a letter from my Bank the Bank of Ireland a few days ago saying that in 2 months time I will no longer be able to use my cash card that I use to withdraw cash from my BOI Classic Saver Account

They said that Banking 365 online which I am already registered for provides an alternative way to access the money in my classic Saver Account . They say Using Banking 365 you can send money to another BOI account . This is what I do not understand as I have only got a saver account with BOI also I guess that I am going to need a new cash card to withdraw cash .

they also gave me a Tel number to call but I know I will be left waiting for ages to get on to them that is why I am asking you first for help and advice on the subject

Not really sure what advice anyone can give you other than to open an account with card facilities.

A bank is entitled to withdraw facilities from an account if it chooses, you're free to go elsewhere if this is an issue.

Can I open an account myself on 365 banking with card facilities or do BOI have to do it

Sorry if this sounds a dumb question but I do not have a clue on the subject

On another note why are BOI withdrawing cash cards from their saver accounts ?

Given that the BOI Classic Saver Account pays a paltry 0.25% AER, I would say the withdrawal of the cash card should be the least of your problems. There are plenty of other accounts which pay significantly more interest - up to 20 times as much if you qualify for certain current accounts, and up to 6 times as much in instant access savings accounts. whilst most savings accounts don't come with cash cards any longer, most offer Faster Payments to a linked current account, all of which come with a debit card. Withdrawing cash is thus not an issue.

Because they no longer want to provide them.

First Direct did the same; they used to provide a white ATM card for their Everyday savings account, but they withdrew this a few years ago.

Another account with a derisory rate. Although it has to be said that it does pay twice as much as the OP currently gets

Savings accounts allowing cash withdrawal via ATMs are quite uncommon, so BoI are just falling into line with the rest of the industry, inconvenient though it may be.

Do you have any other accounts, a current account in particular? Not having a current account would also be quite unusual (not unique though) but if that's the case and you wish to open one with BoI then you may be able to apply for a BoI one through their online portal, but their comment about using this to send money elsewhere was assuming that another account is already in place.

There are plenty of current accounts out there offering a range of perks (https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/compare-best-bank-accounts/) but, reading between the lines maybe, if you have no current account then perhaps you may not be eligible for some/any of these and may need to set sights lower (https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/basic-bank-accounts/).
