  • Well, plumber had come out, told me it was a ventilator inside the boiler that has broken and we needed the new one. He replaced our broken one with the temporarely one and said that he'd get us new ventilator as he didn't have new one on him.
Two days later he had turned up with "reconditioned one" and said that there were no new ones in stock!!!!! I had a feeling that he may have reconditioned my old one and put it back in, charging me for a supposingly "second hand replacement". But it is my suspition only, he may have been honest. After watching the Watch dog program, I strugle to trust them plumbers and electritians, although I am aware majority are honest people (in case there are some tradesman reading this)

  • Hi

If I were doing the same job and was asked if the job could be made cheaper then I would suggest that recon fans are available, but I would not guarantee it's life span.
If you were charged for it as a new part then you would have cause to complain.
I would be suspicious that a new one isn't available, but it might be a long wait for delivery and he's just trying to get you going again.
It would help if the trades explained a bit more about the whys and wherefores of the job ( as I do) it's your house after all, and then you both know where you are.
What boiler is it by the way.?

  • I am not sure what type of boiler it is, I forgot, think it was Classic something. He charged me £40 for reconditioned and has told me that new one would have been £100 odd.

I am not really complaining, just saying these days you shouldn't really call plumber out of yellow pages, as there are some doggie plumbers out there as well as proper ones.
