Child Bond

I took out a Child Bond for my husband’s granddaughter in 2001. The policy matured in January 2019 but unfortunately we have lost touch with the child (obviously now an adult) and her parents in 2008. The parents decided at that point not to have anything to do with us or allow us to see the child. I continued to pay the premiums in the hope that the situation would change, however it has not. I contacted the insurance company, Scottish Friendly, to ask what would happen to the proceeds of the policy. I was told that as the child, after the age of 16, is the beneficiary of the policy and the money can only be paid to her. If she cannot be contacted the money will remain unclaimed with Scottish Friendly for 30 years then be passed to the Government. I am absolutely livid! How can I get MY money back?

you can't - it is the child's money. Maybe try tracking her down on facebookI’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

It is not your money- it belongs to the "child".
Is your husband still in touch with any other friends or family members who might be able to help with an address/phone number etc?
Do you know where your husband's granddaughter went to school?0
