My daughter is car shopping and has seen a second hand Dacia Sandero which comes with a good warranty.

She's looking for reliability above all else as her last car was a lemon.

Does anyone have experience of these? Dacias, not lemons :D.

Thanks in advance.

All the important bits of the Sandero have been tried and tested in various Nissan and Renault models going back many years so should be bulletproof. Of course any individual car can be a dud one, or have a sketchy history.

Dacia is simply a Renault, no issues but they are pretty basic. You could potentially pick up a second hand Captur for similar money from a car supermarket
  • I've been running a Sandero Stepway for 18 months now.

It's been a reliable and comfortable car, and has all the bells and whistles I need.

We took it on a tour of France last year and it never missed a beat.

Would I have another one? Yes.

Same here - had a used Sandero Stepway for about 8 months. I absolutely love it :)

There are plenty of Sanderos in our neck of the woods. What engine is it? The 0.9 turbo is much better than the 1.2 which is a bit slow. It all depends what your daughter wants in terms of performance and comfort.

A Captur will be more expensive year on year, so any car with a comparable price will be significantly older.

Oh wow, this is great feedback, thank you all - she'll be delighted!

I'm not sure if it's a Stepway or not. I think it's a 1.2 petrol engine but reliability is her priority so she's fine with that.

It's six years old and comes from a main dealer with a two year full warranty and roadside assist back to them for repairs.

Thanks again, I'll pass it all on to her.

Have you seen the latest episode of top gear, basically buy a luxobarge for cost of a Dacia sandero. Then compare...

Culminating in a 6 hour endurance race at silverstone where they had to use the Dacia when the rolls/Bentley/Mercedes failed.

Credit to the Dacia it stood up to racing.

I'd agree with that, but if you're looking for reliable cheap basic transport they fit the bill.
