New mattress black mould
Comments

There's nothing wrong with them asking for an independent inspection, although I think they should be paying for that within the first six months. If you're confident the mattress is faulty, there's nothing to worry about.0

Thank you all for your help carpetright got back in touch and said i would have to find and pay for a independent bed inspection before they will look into it which i think is unfair as they say all beds come with a 10 year guarantee .0
-
Tell Carpetright legally, the onus is on them to prove that the mattress is not inherently faulty so they should be arranging an independent inspection, not you.
This is one of the times that the 6 months rule can be a bit difficult to use due to the wording of the CRA:(15)Subsection (14) does not apply if—
(a)it is established that the goods did conform to the contract on that day, or
(b)its application is incompatible with the nature of the goods or with how they fail to conform to the contract.
If the retailer claims that the mattress wasn't mouldy when delivered they can say that they are covered by (a) and if they claim that a mattress that was damp on delivery would have shown signs of mould before 3 months had passed so it must have gotten damp after this time, they may be covered by (b)0 -
I went into store and showed them photos of mattress and my bedroom and now the manager said they will contact the manufacturers to find out if they will send the independent so fingers cross i hope we can get it sorted soon.
The CRA is there a website with more info about it?
I found a page saying if within 1st 6 months the retailer must prove it was not faulty on a which advice page but that was all i could find.0 -
I always leave the top windows open in bedroom and my heating has been on.
It is a normal spring mattress from carpet right but i have got a new memery foam topper that has been on it and the topper is fine.
I have been spinning the mattress each month.
It's been a week so far i have pulled it out and there is no change so been sleeping in spare room.
What type of base is it on?0 -
It is on a ottoman divan base which i brought at the same time from carpetright . Its a dorma topper from dunelm.
The topper and base are both mould free.0 -
Carpet right got back in touch and said they will not send someone out to look at it .
i contacted citizens Advice which put me in contact to ombudsman that said carpetright is not a member of the furniture ombudsman Association so they can not help me.0 -
The furniture ombudsman is an industry set up organisation. You've not lost much by not being able to use them, to be honest. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0
