If you want to take a cabin bag it's cheaper to pay for priority boarding and bring it onto the plane with you, but there are a limited number of these available per flight. If you don't get one then you won't be able to take a standard size cabin bag onto the plane but you can pay to check one in. In all cases you can take a small bag onto the plane.
Whether or not you pay for a large checked bag has no bearing on the cabin baggage allowance.
Whether you pay to reserve a seat in advance or get allocated one at check-in has no bearing on the baggage allowance.
However if you want a large checked bag, a reserved seat AND priority boarding, then it's cheaper to buy a Plus fare rather than the basic fare.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

But if you want to take more than a litre of liquids and can't be arrised decanting stuff into 100ml bottles (or buying 100ml bottles) the extra couple of quid to check in your bag could be worth it.0

1 litre per person, I've met a few people who used to decant now travelling with 1 or more priority and 1 checked-in case since the change.0
