Beware gotogate.co.uk - they charge credit card surcharge (illegal)

Beware gotogate. They get favorable links via comparison sites like skyscanner, but then charge you a surcharge for paying with a credit card. This is totally illegal by EU law. They seem to have a fair few dodgy practices - just avoid.


I'd file a complaint, but they are based in Sweden. I'm not sure if the UK has any jurisdiction.

It's not illegal to have a surcharge, as long as it is applied to all payment methods. Also it is also permissable to apply surcharges to non-personal cards.

Thats the definition of a surcharge. You pay more. In this case if you pay by debit card it was £20 per ticket cheaper than a credit card. Nothing to do with corporate cards.

were you on the UK site? when I look and see the total price with the 'i' next to it, it shows £0.00 cost for using credit card.
Best being avoided anyway and booking direct with the airline.

Yes it was gotogate.co.uk. The surcharge came up at the absolute last minute at payment time. This guys must have learned their tricks from RyanAir

It was a referral via Skyscanner - I wonder if they treat those differently.

So I just tried it. One direct, and one as a re-direct from SkyScanner. The re-direct from skyscanner added the surcharge:

If you can replicate your booking on the gotogate website and see yourself that it states £0.00 fees you can then follow up your complaint

I did replicate - When re-directed from SkyScanner to the gotogate.co.uk web site - it comes up with a surcharge as per my post above.
