    Possibly. But if there was no fault code showing when OP bought the vehicle then either:

    a) They've been very unlucky and the fault occurred within a few miles of the OP buying the vehicle;

    OR (more likely, given OP's information about how clogged up the DPF actually was)


    b) the seller "reset" the fault codes to hide the issue.

    If b) is true then OP had a claim against the seller. Getting someone else to do the work though without giving the seller the first opportunity to do so could work against the OP though.
