Curve and Aqua Reward

Options
Hello guys,

If you a curve card and your underlying card is the Aqua reward, do you still earn 0.5% cash back? (As long as it’s a purchase and not cash withdrawal)

  • Yes, you do, with the added benefit of essentially making your card contactless!

Just for the record, my Aqua card is contactless.

I'm still wondering why anybody would link an Aqua card to Curve. Why not just use the Aqua card? 0% currency surcharge and 0.5% cashback, also with credit card protection.

How? I got a new card last week and it isn't contactless.

It came as contactless approx 12/16.

BTW, mine doesn't work as contactless outside the UK. I have to use Chip&PIN or other cards.
  • Some lenders still prefer to not give contactless cards to customers they deem a "risk" to prevent them running up oodles of debt

@OP yes, you will still earn 0.5% cashback on Aqua purchases through Curve, although I'm pretty sure you will lose any S75 protections this way. Curve passes along the merchant code to your underlying bank now so cash withdrawals/transactions are now generally treated correctly, so be careful not to get stung with fees thinking you can withdraw cash for free on a credit card like what was possible in the past. Also keep in mind that Curve looks at these type of cards closely in order to stop people "cash recycling" by creating artificial spend on their cards to get free rewards

As the previous posts suggest, you will still get your Cashback.

I have recently applied for an Aqua card, hopefully it'll arrive soon and I do plan to add it straight to my Curve card, as I have done with my other cards.

Curve is convenient because you can just switch to whatever card you want charged for the purchase, if you decide you wanted to put a purchase on another card, you can GBiT - Go back in time.

I like Curve because of the instant (usually) in-App notifications and the instant email receipts it sends.

How long did your Aqua card take to arrive?
If I've help in anyway, please remember to thank me :-)

Curve is really for people who have multiple cards. If I just had one card, then I wouldn't use Curve as there would be no point for me.

LOL. Not sure how making a credit card non-contactless prevents someone 'running up oodles of debt'.

It's a moot point, anyway, given that most transactions are performed 'online' now.

Aqua was quite late to the the contactless party.

    https://www.aquacard.co.uk/contactless:
I don’t have a contactless aqua card but want one, how can I get one?

aqua are trialling contactless during 2016 and 2017.

My Aqua card, issued in September 2017, isn't contactless. My Amazon card, also issued by NewDay, is contactless.

Perhaps Aqua is worried I'll get tap happy and run up oodles of debt. Which makes me wonder why they've increased my credit limit several times. I feel an accusation of irresponsible lending and a claim for compo is on its way...
