HELP! Court Summons from MIB 5 years after incident - Address changed

We need more information.
Anyway, based on what we have, you were uninsured and drove into the back of a taxi. You're at fault and the MIB visited you.
You moved away a year after the accident. I presume you didn't provide the MIB with a forwarding address or advise the taxi driver or his insurers of the same.
The taxi driver probably issued proceedings on you after you moved. It was served on your last known address which is good service given that nobody was to know you had moved house. The MIB settled the taxi driver's claim as you were uninsured and were at fault.
Now that they have settled the taxi driver's claim, they are looking to you for their outlay ie the costs of settling the taxi driver's claim for damages and costs and maybe their own costs of dealing with the matter.
Are the MIB the Claimant in the Court papers?
You can't fight it. You are uninsured. You were at fault. The MIB would have sought reductions in the taxi driver's claim if they saw fit.
The best you can hope for is to try and agree a payment plan with the debt collectors or the MIB.
Wasn't such a good idea to drive uninsured was it.0 -

Yes MIB are the claimant.
In regards to informing mib of address change, i did not think it was necessary as they had not made any contact with me in a whole year after their first visit. The MIB guy sounded very confident in telling me there would be no grounds for a claim after viewing the car. He assured me not to worry. i did not see this coming to me 5 years later0 -
Without you providing witness evidence regards the accident circumstances and the minor nature of the impact, the MIB couldn't have fought the case. They would have needed you to attend trial to prove how minor the accident was but alas without having the means to contact you, they couldn't defend the claim.
Remember, people have up to 6 years to bring a claim for financial losses and 3 years for a claim for personal injury.0
