Recovering photos - EMERGENCY!!!

I was organising photos, moving them into appropriate folders. Popped up that file has same same, do I want to replace these files, I stupidly clicked that instead of skip these files, not realising there were photos with the same name. So the latter photos have replaced those with the same name.
Is there a way I can get these photos back? This is an emergency. Please help!!!
p.s. I have windows 8.1

Do you know format? I assume .jpg
A wild shot but try & search for .jpg and assuming your normal pics are in normal folders any that are not could be the missing ones? When an eel bites your bum, that's a Moray0 -

Not sure if this will work but worth a shot. Go to the folder in Windows Explorer and right-click anywhere inside the folder and select Properties. Then look at the Previous Versions tab to see if there are older versions of the folder and files available.0

Try recovery software such as Recuva0

Were they in another folder on your PC? You might be able to take your computer "back in time" and the files should be there! Just take it back to yesterday. You will lose any new files you have created since, though. Careful with this, though

I'm not sure if I'm doing this correctly. I am in the folder in question, right click properties and the closest thing I can see is under customise tab and a restore default button.0 -

This sounds scary. Why should I be careful with this? I will have a try.0
