Non dependant moving out

Can anyone advise please
I live with my husband and my daughter we claim HB
My daughter has decided she will be moving out shortly to live with her boyfriend. The question is when I have a date from her I will be going into the local council and housing association to obviously inform them of the change of circumstances, and I understand I will probably then have to pay bedroom tax as I will have a spare room then, but when I tell them wil they ask me for her new adress that she’s moving to ? and would I have to give it to them? As she does not claim any form of benefits & neither does her boyfriend and will not be moving into any rented accomadation
Surley I would not have to give them all her personal information if she leaves home as she will not be living with us any longer
Thank you

You just need to keep them informed about your circumstances. If you have one spare bedroom you will be expected to pay 14% of your rent yourself. On the other hand if she was previously expected to contribute towards the rent that will no longer be the case.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
  • There are a number of reasons why they would want to know her new address and quite honestly I don't see why doing so would in any way be a problem??

“It would not be a problem “
I’m just curious understanding Why I would have to give her forwarding adress or personal information at all as she would no longer live with us and therefore any of her personal buissines from the date she leaves home would have nothing to do with our claim.
As I mentioned above she does not claim any benefits and never has, and will not be moving into rented accommodation, so I fail to understand what the reasons are for them needing to know all her personal business and her forwarding adress etc once she has left home to start a new chapter in her life which would have nothing to do with her having to claiming any benefits whatsoever. Surley she’s entitled to her privacy and her personal business is her own then once she leaves the home and will have nothing to do with my claim

They would not need to know her new address and they most likely won't even ask that question.

When my daughter moved out a few years ago, i told my local council she had left, i was then charged the bedroom tax but they never ever asked for any details regarding my daughter. After all, she wasn't claiming any benefits and like you say it's none of their business.

They don't need to know her address, she doesn't even have to have an address, if the claimant states that someone has moved out that should be taken at face value unless there is any reason not to.

Report it when she moves out, not in advance of it happening. If reported in advance and for any reason the situation changes it could just cause confusion with the council.

More than likely for Council Tax .

They have her living at your address, you tell them she is moving out, they would like to know where, still in same area? new area and wanting to notify new area of Council Tax commitments ? bit like buying a TV and getting a TV licence. and moving to a new property kind of?

I do not see what the problem is about notifying a Government body of where a person may be moving to unless there is a possible violence issue of course.

The government department needs only the information required to process the change. The non dependents information is not required to process the change for the claimant in the OP.

While the department, or other departments, could make use of all sorts of information, it's not really the way it is supposed to be done.

If the non dependent needs to claim benefit or be included on another claim, then their information is required.

No she has never claimed benefits and no intention of claiming benefits the only change Is her moving out of the house, and me having to inform housing dept etc to notify them of my change of circumstances due to her planning moving out, I’m just asking sure I’m doing everything the correct way. I just was unsure if they would ask her forwarding adress and if so why would they need that as she would be no longer part of the household
