Good Afternoon.
My ex has a cousin who works for a high-end finance company as an underwriter, and I have proof that she asked her to search for me and my details through her company.
She has given her information including my address, my work address, my salary, even what car finance I have on my car. My credit score, how many credit lines I have open, along with other details.
Now I've ask people whether this is legal or not and I've been told by several people this is against the law.
So any advice on what I should do on this matter will be very helpful, thank you!

Just be extreamly thankful they are your ex, and move on.
What else do you want to hear ?
Its not a matter to be dealt with by the courts, there is no compensation coming your way, you could drop a dime on the cousin by informing her employer, but that will make you look spiteful.

She thinks i'm lying about my income, therefore paying less child maintenance which i should be, which i'm not. But that's not the issue because i'm paying more than i should be but i'll let her find that out the hard way.YorkshireBoy wrote: »What proof do you have?Get a copy of your credit reports from the 3 main agencies. Any search made by the cousin's employer will be recorded on one or more of the reports. If you find one, then approach the cousin's employer for an explanation.

Is there anyway of getting my credit records without paying for a premium subscription as i used my free trial recently?
I'm not looking to get anyone sacked i'm just very p*ssed off this company has so much information on me when i've never even used them! And they've allowed this information, personal information to be made available.0 -
I certainly wouldn’t ‘move on’. It’s outrageous! I’d make a formal complaint to the employer. I don’t think you need proof. The employer will have a record of the search. I imagine she’d lose her job over this. And rightly so, as YorkshireBoy has said. The company’s only fault here is employing someone like your ex’s cousin. This is down to her.
If you really don’t want her to get into trouble there’s not much you can do.sourcrates wrote: »Its not a matter to be dealt with by the courts, there is no compensation coming your way, you could drop a dime on the cousin by informing her employer, but that will make you look spiteful.
I strongly disagree. I think what she’s done is really serious and she deserves the consequences.0 -

I don't know if it's against the law but it could be a gross misconduct act in her employment. I have access to information during my work and would be sacked if I disclosed anything to another person.0

The Finance Company wasn't holding the information on you (unless you have already finance with them), your Ex's cousin has carried out a search on you with whichever Credit Reference Agencies the company uses, probably under the pretext you were applying for finance with them. As an underwriter she would have access in order to do her job (which she might not have for much longer)0 -

She told me she has asked her, foolishly.

Right, well that is a reasonable answer, always best to post as much initial info as possible, because we get lots of people coming on here just wanting to claim compensation for data issues, or to upstage an ex partner.
Acces to your credit file is now free via any of the CRA websites or 3rd party sites on the net, it would certainly be gross misconduct on the part of the cousin, and i would say you have every right to be annoyed about it, what is the proof you mention ?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. You say she told you she asked her cousin. Do you have this in writing, or was it verbal?"Facism arrives as your friend. It will restore your honour, make you feel proud, protect your house, give you a job, clean up the neighbourhood, remind you of how great you once were, clear out the venal and the corrupt, remove anything you feel is unlike you... [it] doesn't walk in saying, "our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution."0

If evidence was needed it the employer will have it. Their systems should show the names of people who were under search, the cousin will have no evidence of why she was searching your name.0
