Cut out Estate Agent fees with free property lisings

I've been looking at an alternative method to sell my property in Orkney without losing a fortune in Estate Agent fees.
My friend just sold his house on this site https://www.landorproperty.com which will allow you to list the property with 10 photos for the first 3 months for free! It's very user-friendly and only took me 7 mins to list the property and upload all the photos.
There are other sites which I am trying - including the ones Martin recommends on the main site. I'll keep you posted as to how I get on.

Just a quick update on different sites I've tried for selling our Old Mill in Orkney and their responses https://www.easier.com have given me 1 enquiry https://www.buyitprivately.com have sent 1 enquiry https://www.landorproperty.com have shown me there've been 38 viewings (but no enquires) Nothing from privatehousemove.co.uk Will most likely have to resort to a proper local agent to get a sale in Spring - but you never know - I'll continue to let you know my findings in the meantime. If anyone has any other ideas (not people connected with promoting their own websites/business) please let me know. Thanks0

I'd use an agent. After all, you'll probably get their service at a 1% fee and they'll end up acheiving this in a better price than you could get and for much less hassle than a private sale.0

You obviously haven't tried any of the agents I've used in Surrey, Essex and the Midlands who seem to cause nothing but hassle directly in proportion to their extortionate fees.Signature on holiday for two weeks0 -
I would definately have a punt at selling without an agent next time. I have used 4 of the 5 in my local town and found them all worse than useless. Paying their fee has always left a very bitter taste. Once you agree a price, solicitors can do the rest - a good, on the ball solicitor is key, and their fees tend to be very reasonable given the amount of work that they do (in my experience).18 May 2007 (start of Mortgage):

I bet those sash windows don't half rattle around when it's windy  which is probably most of the time! Nice sunset though. Is the cat included

Ohmygod - what a small world. My great great grandfather was James Leonard of Rousay (where you're house is for sale). He built his own croft house there, the house was called 'Digro'. My mum unveiled a plaque outside the croft house a few years ago, in memory of his brave actions of standing up to the Little General (General Burroughs) on behalf of mistreated tenants on the island, which led to himself then being evicted.
Sorry to go off thread - just very suprised to see Rousay mentioned here!0 -
Lucky ducky, have you tried housenetwork.co.uk? No idea what their coverage in your part of the world is but lots of people have used them on here and saved themselves a fortune.
We sold our last house through them - sold in 4 days, fees were £500. I wouldn't touch a high street EA with a barge pole ever, and was equally amused by brixmorta's comment on EAs being less hassle!!!
Never been my experience - they are by far and away the most expensive part of the house sale, and easily the most expendable. I dream of the day everyone will sell their house on line and EAs will all disappear!
Good luck! You'll never see a rainbow if you don't first put up with the rain . . . :happylove0 -
I used Houseladder earlier in the year and went no where near an agent.
House sold for the price we were looking for within a fortnight. Was relatively hassle free and we maintained contact with the buyer through email updating each other on each stage of the sale.
The fee IIRC was around £150 but it was money well spent and less than 10% of what we would have paid to an agent.
Given this experience I would never use an agent again.0 -
We just exchanged on a house we found on houseladder.
I just managed to spot it before we contacted the Estate Agent who were also marketing it (and have us on their list for new propertiees too!)
In the end we split the 'EA fees' with the vendor and built up a lot of good will by dealing directly with them. Highly recommended.0 -
Hi my computer crashed and I lost all my e-mail messages.
Visit www.aroundrousay.co.uk for pictures and links to other information on Rousay - it's a great place to visit Easter/summer time. The new owners of Trumland house are quite defensive of the General & are trying to put the estate back together. A few islanders have had the stories passed down the generations about what a tyrant he is. I'm not sure where your ancestors place was - only really know Brinian really well, just ask if you have any questions. Thanks0
