The BPA Admits ANPR Systems Are No Good

https://www.southwarknews.co.uk/news/surrey-quays-car-park-fines-cameras/

The British Parking Association, which maintains a code of practice for the industry, told the News it supported the use of automatic number-plate recognition (ANPR) cameras to manage parking but that complaints over double visits were common

The cameras “can be extremely efficient, effective and precise” said a representative of the group, which “brings with it a responsibility to use it carefully.”

“The main criticism is multiple visits, which are sometimes not identified and which can lead to false enforcement for overstaying, non-payment or incorrect payment,” the spokesperson said.

This is why councils are banned from using this system.

Its a shame we dont see more/any GDPR breach complaints/action being taken for so called double dips, with both the principal ( ie car park owner such as the supermarket) and the PPC being in the firing line

CP Plus has cancelled the penalty notice as a goodwill gesture, the company said.
    Utterly shameless scum.

Sometimes i think people forget just what the BPA limited is.
And that is a trade association, its not a regulatory body, as the BPA has stated itself when people have asked for action.

As a trade association its there to look after its members, to ensure that its members are not heavily regulated in such a way as to damage its members ability to make money.
There are various methods at play to ensure that the money keeps on flowing
Lobbying the government/ministers, this is one of the reasons why this parking bill working its way through will probably be watered down and not the great hope that some think it will be.

A so called code of practice, While some PPCs come a cropper with this, its real purpose is to give the whole thing an air of respectability, even if the air stinks the likes of the DVLA have swallowed it hook line and sinker

Misinformation/lack of action, you would have though if an industry was being misrepresented, or false facts were being put out there, then there would be a PR department correcting things,.
but with PPC land its a huge help that local news outlets, and even national news outlets refer to these things as fines, as people will, and do confuse parking charge notices with penalty charge notices, a vast majority will pay up quickly as they wont want the hassle, and they get taken in with the early payment so called discount.
A nice bit of pressure will make people make rash decisions and pay before researching the thing.

As mentioned above, people need to start going for the big retailers/landowners who take these so called parking company's on.
If a supermarket manager/supervisor/whoever is in charge could be stung personally for a GDPR breach as a result of a double dip by a PPC then all the better
