Virgin Media want to replace my modem

Virgin Media rang up to say they want to replace my modem. My modem works fine so I said I didn't want it. They stated that my old modem would stop working. Is this in fact the case?
It turns out that the modem they seem to be rolling out, the superhub 3.0 has a ton of problems. I'm not sure what I should do. If I ignore Virgin then I'm concerned my internet will stop working one day: if I replace it then I could end up with serious connectivity issues.
I am entirely dependent on the internet for my living and even a short loss of access would have very serious financial consequences for me. Would greatly appreciate any advice.

You really should not be using a domestic subscription for business..0 -
JJ and Money: No, this is not a business contract.
By "short loss of access" I meant not being able to access the internet for weeks, not short-term disconnection issues-which are not actually that great with my existing modem. Sorry for any confusion.
My preference is to ignore Virgin and carry on using my existing modem, but I am not sure what they mean by "your modem will stop working". Does that mean "it will die eventually" or "we are turning off its life support"?0 -

I have never had more than a few hours loss with VM.
I run and have run Superhub 3 for yonks.
No issues,solid connection and package speeds0 -
No it is not a business contract.
Otherwise, it seems to me you are worrying unnecessarily about Virgin's new Hub. As above, I've been using that hub for some time now without issues.
If you are that concerned then you may be better off considering a different supplier.0 -
If it's Virgin Media (cable) they can turn their modem on/off remotely and deregister it from their system if they want.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

There seem to be an awful lot of complaints and most of the reviews seem to be saying it is worse than the older models.
And yes, I could get another supplier, but any change has potential issues with installation. There doesn't seem to be any reason to do that since my existing modem works fine.0 -

Do they actually do this though, at least in the scenario I described?0 -
If they have a technical need to replace their modem, and you don't agree, eventually I suppose they would turn it off.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

I can't remember the last time I had any outage from VM. I've had the SH3 since it was launched and never had a problem with it.....It was issued about 2 years ago, so is not new.
Virgin are about to launch 500Mb package soon, so maybe they are phasing out those few who still have the old modem.
Why take the chance. Get the new one and just keep the old one in a draw somewhere to stop you worrying needlessly....
If you search for problems, you will find them, who goes online to praise anything??;)Drinking Rum before 10am makes you
