Once the nightmare pair were finally gone, I did indeed get a replacement. She has turned out to be a charming young lady. Bubbly, cheerful, pays the rent on time, cleans up after herself, and is good company. Her partner (she moved in a couple of weeks back), is from the same mold. In your shoes, I would reply "sorry, the room is already taken" but there is nothing to stop you keeping an ear to the ground.
If, in a year or two, you hear that she has indeed grown up and become a lot more responsible in her dealings with people, then consider telling her that the next time the room becomes vacant, you would consider her for it.
On the other hand, you perhaps need to ask yourself why she chooses destructive/damaging options and why no member of her family is able (or willing) to offer a safe and stable place to live.0 -
Autumn of 2017, I had an 18yo girl staying with me - Three months pregnant, boyfriend floating in and out. In the two months she stayed here, the BF did quite a bit of damage to the room, and she was very emotionally unstable. Ended up with her having a "meltdown", rehomed in a women's refuge, leaving me to repair the damage.
Over the weekend, I had a string of emails from this young girl asking if "her old room" was vacant and could she move back. Imploring me to provide a safe and stable environment for both herself and a new BF with the long term aim of getting the baby back.....Once the nightmare pair were finally gone, I did indeed get a replacement. Would you be having the old lodger back in addition to the lovely new lodgers?
They are happy with the set-up as it is. Don't you risk losing the good lodgers if your troubled young mother moves back in?0 -

Don't have the space for any more lodgers, and I'd be running the risk of becoming a small HMO (with all the additional hassles that that entails). Going to hang on to the current pair for as long as they want to stay and won't do anything to jeopardise things on that front.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Posted to see what others thought before I gave a final decision. I could clear out small bedroom, but this would be far from ideal for a single occupant, let alone someone that might have a bf and/or baby in tow.
