Hello I wonder if anyone can help. When I download my photos of my Samsung S7 onto my laptop I get a load of images I do not recognised. I think they are pics copied of facebook. Nothing bad, but pics of people I do not know, pics of groups I am in, characters from games I play When I go into my phone I am unable to locate them to delete them of my phone. Does anyone have any ideas? I think it is something to do with .nomedia, but when I search for it on my phone I cannot locate it. Thanks for your help

How are you copying the photos? If you're copying from internal storage/SD card using Windows Explorer then you could delete them from the phone that way.
That said, Facebook images would typically be in a Facebook sub-folder - the simply solution is to not copy them. Clearing the cache in the FB app may get rid of them.0 -
Thanks. I think I am copying the images as the originals remain on the phone. I have been deleting them of my phone via the laptop but new ones appear.
I have just clear the cache on my phone so hopefully that would help.
I would prefer to stop them all together.

Downinja, no not What's App as I do not have it. It looks like facebook. I use Swipe on my phone and have a look around but could not see anything I could change. Thanks0

The reason you cant see them in the gallery of your phone is because of the .nomedia file in the same directory.
That instructs android to ignore this folders contents when constructing the gallery.
The pics you see are just images used by either the facebook app, or the facebook messenger app. They are stroed in a cache so as to speed up the experience by not having to download them everytime they are viewed.
Why do you want to delete them off the phone if you cant see them ?
If you do delete them, they will just be downloaded again almost immediately the next time you use the app0 -
AndyPix, I wanted to get rid of them as they appear every time I download my photos to my laptop. If I could figure out how to stop that then it would not bug me. Thanks for the info..at least I now understand what is going on.0

Indeed. On my Huawei (running Android 7) I use the SD card for photos storage. In the DCIM folder I have 3 sub-folders:
.thumbnails
Camera
Facebook
Guess which one I copy to backup to my PC?0 -
Rather than downloading the photos from your phone why don't you select and download them from Google Photos, which is what I do with the ones that I want on my laptop.0

Because the ones on Google Photos are probably not the original resolution? (Which will be the case if the free storage option is being used).0
