Windows.... my bloke has just gone. I'm now looking out clearly and sparkly.

I've checked out the karcher thing Cranky, thanks. The trouble here is that my windows are sashes with two lots of six panes in each and they are far too high for me to reach safely. The bloke clambers on window ledges and is almost standing upright to reach the top. My kitchen window is so far back from the sink it's almost like having two parallel sinks. I'm happy to pay him for his services once a year and the other outside only window cleaners every six weeks.

We had a long discussion about flies and windows and window cleaning and fly spray! As I live on a farm the animals are a great attraction for flies, which then decamp into my place in summer. He suggested a fly pen which is rubbed along the edges of each pane and (somehow) just kills the flies. I've ordered one. There's also window stickers (looking like a sunflower) which attracts the flies and kills them - ordered a set of them too!

He also told me of a powder which, when mixed with water and hung in a bag outside, attracts the flies, they pile into the bag and drown. The downside is that the smell is awful and so the bag has to be hung up away from any sitting area. I haven't investigated that one yet.

I've done the shortlisting of applicants and sent my list off to HR. Another outstanding job done.:j

My DM is off for a lung function test shortly. A friend in Glasgow is taking her there and back to save me from the journey. We are both so lucky that DM has such caring friends.

Now I will stop doing things apart from putting my window ledges to right. Well, maybe not just yet, I deserve a cup of tea first.

It may be a present for the house out of the dwindling birthday money...:)

I'm great believer in spending birthday money on personal things, gin, chocolate, wine, jewellery etc. Those little special treats which are not part of normal expenditure, though I suppose chocolate is not such a treat.

Household items come from household accounts - my ex once wanted to give me an ironing board for Christmas or birthday. I was horrified, he ended up giving me a rather large bottle of Tanqueray gin, much more acceptable. :rotfl:

Needs must at the moment Gers, otherwise normally, I'm of a totally similar mind. I've decided it's just too much of an expense at the moment, will revisit when the finances pick up...:)
I do like the idea of it though, I have a squeegee thing but when you clean windows with soapy water , like the lower ground ones outside, you end up squeegeeing dirty water all over the windowsills.
Not that I have beenlately though :)

Cranky you assumed wrong ! You were one of my MIA's :( and I have missed your posts about you and the HT :D. Please don't be a stranger and post when you can.
You have reminded me that we have a Kar*her too, but I'm not allowed to use it if I have to climb a ladder, which means all the downstairs windows are a no, no. Poor Mr Fix It has already got a "to do " list as long as your arm, so I dare not add anymore ...... well not until he's at least half way through :rotfl:
This afternoon I have cleaned and sorted the condiment cupboard, the baking one and my Nan's too. ( it's my cupboard now and full of tins etc. but it will be forever my Nans :heartsmil)
Right better get a shift on and make a start on tea, I found some gammon slices in the freezer, so we will have that with wedgies.

Gers I hope your Mum's appointment goes well

    love nan xx

I understand! I hope that you can squeeze some lovely chocs out of the birthday money too, though my ultimate 'comfort' sugar is marshmallows. :o Think it's a texture thing, sometimes I simply crave them - not had a craving for months and months so I'm usually good.

Nan - thanks for asking. My DM has reported back "No detailed result but confirmed that I have OCPD." - I know she means COPD and it's not a great diagnosis but it made me laugh anyway. :rotfl: The test took nearly three hours so she's exhausted. Now we have that conclusion we can look to the support of the NHS. She'll be 91 years old on Saturday and very pragmatic about her future and her limitations.

That news has been the final nail in the coffin of me carrying on working. I already had decided to stop working though a little part of me wanted to carry on being financially productive. Now I'll take my SP, spend more time with DM and spend more time doing 'me' things. I'm not the spring chicken I like to think I am.

I still haven't tackled the book mountain on the spare bed. It can wait. I'll go down to Glasgow tomorrow as I've got a couple of items to return to shops and I can VC to my student from there just as easily as from here.

Tonight's is Shetland time so I'll be tucked up in bed watching it. I'm such a tramp sometimes. :rotfl:

Nanny your post earlier spurred me on,so thanks for that:D.I too have been sorting my lower cupboards, checking what I have,& what I haven't in time to add to my online shop for Thursday.

Gers sorry to hear your DM has COPD.I never regretted leaving work when my DDad was ill and treasured spending more time with him .
I like Shetland but I think I'm still 1 behind,I shall have to check.DH isnt as keen,I think he prefers a faster moving story but he will watch it. We like Endeavour too but they're usually about 2 hrs and he always falls asleep :rotfl:

My DB called just before lunch and we had a good chinwag,so I'm glad I didnt go to town this morning.
Have a pleasant evening everyone xx

Gers, I usually only lurk, but I have tried the sunflower stickers and they only caught a couple of flies the whole summer and when I went to remove them were very very sticky, in fact I still haven't managed to get all the residue off:(
