Hi everyone,
what are your thoughts in terms of value? Would you buy a terraced house in prime location or a detached house in casual neighborhood?
We are looking at terraced cottage houses in Hampstead and for the same money one can get a bigger detached house in High Barnet.
Cheers for any advise!

Was "casual" the word you were looking for, or is this some new definition I haven't encountered before?0

What does your commute look like from either location?
You should factor that in. Time and cost0 -
It is about the same as the house in Hampstead is about 25 mins walk from a station while the one in High Barnet is about 10. I can just see there are a lot of houses on the market in High Barnet (although no other detached ones) and very few in Hampstead in that price range. Most opinions claim that Hampstead is no brainiac but a detached house comes the maximum privacy on the other hand.0

Personally, if my commute was the same I’d live further out for the things you gain.
That’s just my opinion.
Best of luck op0 -
You know what they say
Location, Location, Location0 -
We bought further out because we wanted offstreet parking as well as a station. The further in you go the more difficult the parking if you want to have a car.0

Is it just somewhere in Hampstead or Hampstead Village? If it’s a 25 min walk to a station I assume it may not be the desirable bit of Hampstead.
Commute obviously important but so is the nature of the area. How do the two places compare on terms of access to shops, cafes, parks etc. What short of lifestyle do you want?0 -
As I have 3 kids I would choose the larger house especially as the commute would take the same amount of time. If I had no children I would go for the smaller more central house. I much prefer walking to travelling by train and so would prefer the commute spent mostly walking. I don't know either area though. Which area do you prefer?0
