Virgin Media contract mess

Options
I renewed my BB contract with Virgin in April 2018 for 12 months at £23/month. In September they emailed me to say they will be charging me £3 extra per month or I can leave without a penalty. I phoned them and what sounded like a helpful guy over the phone said he will stop the price rise and keep my payment at £23 which he did. Today I received my bill for this month and it has gone up to £27. I was planning to call them any way as my contract was coming to an end (April 2019) but was shocked when I checked my account online and it said contract started September 2018. I never agreed to sign a new contract in that phone call and even if I did why did the price go up this month?

I tried to call Virgin but after 45 minutes on hold I gave up. Any advice please?

Would make a formal complaint move things forward?

It seems to be quite common for the likes of BT, Virgin etc that as soon as you call them about any changes to your service or the price, they treat it as renewing your contract to tie you in for another year. No idea why your price has went up though? Not sure there is much else you can do other than get back on the phone to complain and this time if they agree to not increase the price, make it clear you are not renewing your contract.

This is the biggest reason why I hate virgin media once they lock you into a cheap deal my last year January deal was £24 phone line and 70mb the last six months my bills went upto £39. Nearly doubled the price no calls made on landline !!!!!!

Phoned up last August to complain about the £3 pound price rise they extended my contract for another 12 months politely told them over the phone I will complain to head office.
This January 2019 I cancelled everything including broadband and phone line no penalty now only paying £11 a month on three UK unlimited data and hotspot via 4g router with speeds 100mb+.

Amazing how does virgin media gets away with this shifty business practice price rise in contracts paying nearly double your monthly bills.
Eg virgin mobile latest shady stunt cancelling the £5 phone plans making people pay double.
  • If all else fails look up the Virgin media CEO and customer services director :j

    Typical VM

Any supplier will start a 12 month contract when you renegotiate a deal.

Vm tens to give you a deal/price for 6 months.

When you get to month 7 it’s too late to do anything about it, hope you won’t care etc.

You are likely stuck with it assuming it agrees with the online contract

As already stated, it would appear ( regardless of them making it clear ) that when you called they removed the price rise for 6 months , but in return signed you up for a further 12 months, hence when you get to month 7 the price goes up, but you are stuck for the next 6 months ( unless you pay ETC ) ...you could try and argue that this was not was agreed, or just keep it in mind when in 6 months you are in a good position to negotiate or change provider penalty free...obviously something to have in mind is if you call VM and they apologise and do another 'deal' , check what they are expecting of you, as there is no such thing as a free lunch
