Blook soaked mattress and bed disposal

Hi, not sure what section to post this in.
My mum fell in her bathroom and injured her ribs and face. She went to bed afterwards and woke up in the middle of the night with blood everywhere. She has a diven bed - the bed and mattress are soaked in blood and it's ruined.
She's recovering - she had injuries to her face and broken ribs. We need to sort her a new bed. She also bled on the carpet and a chair but we've pretty much managed to sort those out.
I've got no idea what to do with the bed and the mattres. I'm not sure the council will take it? It may be classed as bio waste due to the amount of blood?
If it changes anything, she lives in a council-run over 50's block of flats. It has a concierge service but isn't classed as supported living (I think that's the right term).
Any help on this would be great as I have no idea what to do with the bed.
Thanks

Alternatively, is there a council property manager/housing officer who deals with the block?"In the future, everyone will be rich for 15 minutes"0 -
I would contact the local firm that clean up crime scenes (After the CSIs have left). They will know what to do.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

I don't think you need to worry as long your mum is infection free (e.g HIV)
Put in a large bag (new mattress usually have )
Take to the dump or the new mattress people will take it0 -
agree large bag and take to the local tip0

Council would probably collect if it is wrapped in shrink wrap, they wont pick up wet mattresses as we found out when renovating a property with a scummy neighbor who dumped everything in their own back garden then moaned to us the council wouldn't clear it for her.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0

Phoned the council and they wouldn't help due to the blood. Just to confirm it's the mattress and the diven bed that needs to go.0

Was that the bulky collections you spoke too ?
Would they collect it if as mentioned it was wrapped in plastic ?
Know anyone with a van you could ask to take it to the tip ?0 -
I spoke to 'envirocall' who deal with all of the rubbish, waste including bulky items etc. It was a big no, I didn't mention wrapping everything in plastic, but it wasn't suggested by them either.
I don't know anyone with a van, but I could hire one and get the lads to help with the carrying. My mam lives on a 7th floor flat which doesn't help!
Are we sure a tip would take it wrapped up? Would they want to know what's inside the parcels?
Thanks for all the responses so far0 -
One possibility is to remove the outer cover from the mattress and bed, plus as much of the padding as necessary to get rid of the blood. Double bag the bloody stuff and bin it. The council should collect the rest, but obviously check before doing this.
If you have a saw, you can saw the divan base up and possibly save on collection cost!
This makes a fair mess, but you're unfortunately in a very difficult situation. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
You could also e-mail the local housing association. They must have to deal with things like this sometimes and might offer adviceChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0
