Don't guess. Get your paperwork out and look at it.

Erm ASU cover is the most typical format of PPI
  • I did want PPI to cover payments for Credit Card incase of illness etc. After reading all advise on website I still don't understand if I should put claim in for PPI (despite that I wanted it in the first place) or do I just claim for Plevin? Any advise is greatly appreciated, many Thanks in advance

So your complaint would be that you wanted it and they let you have it?

a "PPI Claim" is actually a complaint about wrongdoing. ie. you are alleging that the card provider sold PPI to you incorrectly.

    Was that the case?

  • No, I'm not sure if there were other reasons for mis-selling apart from Plevin. The following is posted on the website which lead me to my question.

"Question: I think I had PPI though I'm not sure it was mis-sold - should I just go for a Plevin reclaim?

Answer: No. It's worth checking first if you were originally mis-sold PPI. This is because if you discover you were mis-sold, you'll be entitled to much more cash. The bank must now also automatically consider you for Plevin, so if you're rejected you can then get a Plevin payout

I hope someone can understand my question and is kind enough to explain

You cannot simply complain... you must give your complaint reasons as to why you consider the policy was mis-sold - if you knowingly wanted and agreed to it the it was not mis-sold.

With regards to Plevin, this is something that has been put in place retrospectively and again is not an indication of mis-selling - put in a Plevin only complaint, however it will depend on you having an active credit agreement between certain dates so please don’t be surprised if this fails if your credit wasn’t active between those dates.

Mis-selling is being persuaded that you want something that is unsuitable, so wanting it can't be a reason to have the claim rejected (unless your argument was you were unaware but that would seem to be fraud not misselling).

You don't know that you were missold until you find out the reason why you were missold, so I agree you need to come up with a reason but it might not be something you know yet.

Being self employed is actually a pretty good place to start, check the T&C to see if you could have claimed. Large amount of savings or rich spouse so you could actually pay off the credit card in any case is another avenue.

Mortgage companies can require you to have buildings insurance though, what they can't do is require you to take it out through them.
