Ditch Plusnet and Tether to GiffGaff?

Options
After loosing my broadband and landline (which i never use) for almost a week and waiting upwards of 40 mins to speak to someone on plusnet each time, my son is suggesting i ditch my broadband and phone and just tether my laptop to my iphone which is on giffgaff (unlimited data)
Im keen to hear people's experiences of this before i make the leap!

My son tried GiffGaff unlimited data for internet and discovered it wasn't really unlimited. (That was in 2017)

I believe it is now called "Always On" but has big restrictions

Just take out the three deal £27 unlimited everything using your 14 days cooling period go to three chat complaints ask for less minutes eg 600/200 you should be able to get that plan to £14 with ease.

Stay away from giffgaff they will slow you down after 25gb data or you could try Smarty unlimited everything £25 with one month free. (Payandgo from three)

Currently using my 3uk £11 200 minutes unlimited hotspot/data with my tplink 4g router.

GIFFGAFF unlimited drops to about 0.2Mb after you use so much bandwidth. Years ago I hit 3 with 76Gb in a two week period and they didn't slow the sevice but that was only while the internet was sorted out.
Someone please tell me what money is

Three have a tethering (hotspot) limit on their unlimited plans. Typically 4gb/mo but higher tiers available at cost. Once upon a time they didn't seem to enforce it, but they did last year when I switched to a limited plan with no restrictions on tethering.

With Three, the tethering limit used to be 30GB per month on an AYCE data plan, but since last October, tethering is unlimited on an unlimited plan.

Wow! Really? That's pretty generous of them, given what the competition offers, does that include some small print caveats to allow them to throttle at some point or is it full on AYCE for everything?

My current 3 plan (which I've had for 14 months now) is 100gb/mo (which is functionally unlimited) of which 30gb/mo can be used for hotspot. My previous plan which I had between 2016 and 2018 was AYCE Data, but limited to 4GB hotspot, which was one of the reasons I gave it up (The other reason was it only had 200 minutes which I regularly exceeded).

No, there isn't speed throttling apart if there's heavy congestion. There is a section about that here-

The 100GB plan you are on now, it should include a 100GB hotspot because the option to use all your data allowance for hotspot applies to existing customers also.

One thing that is quite difficult to find out is the number of devices that you can hotspot to.
I was looking at going with Vodafone and I think that is only 5 devices maximum. Even though there are only 2 of us at home, I’m wondering if that might be a bit limiting sometimes.

Thanks for the info. Would have been nice of 3 to have informed me of this variation of our contract (not that I'm complaining since its to my benefit). Perhaps it's because I'm now out of the minimum term and it would make a good retention point if I ever called for a PAC.

Oddly enough, the 'plan' section in the app still lists the hotspot limit under 'allowances' but the separate hotspot bar on the usage disappeared in a recent update.
