Old radiators - potential for scrap?

If they are the old style of cast iron radiators (as opposed to steel panel radiators), you may find they have a better value as architectural salvage. Might be worth ringing a few building reclaim suppliers to see if they are interested.
This.
Old cast iron radiators when refurbished can be worth quite a bit. They are very fashionable in loft style apartments etc. They usually need more than sand blasting and painted so it can be a specialist job. Cast iron radiators are usually made in several sections all bolted together with a large bolt at the top and bottom and sometimes they need to be dismantled and put back together again during restoration. They also sometimes need pressure tested for leaks as cast iron easily cracks.0 -
Googling scrap metal prices it seems:
Aluminium is worth 40p/kg
Cast iron/steel 10p/kg
Brass (the valves) 275p/kg
It may be worth taking the lot to a scrap metal dealer - if you pass one on your way somewhere? and can get it in/out of your vehicle OK.
Alternatively a local recycling centre will take them and the scrap value should help towards the running costs of the facility?
My tip is to ring up a few scrap dealers before you go. The prices differ dramatically and it will be a different price to if you just turn up. For example the place I usually go will be more like £1/kg for ali.0
