Old radiators - potential for scrap?

Am posting and this thread is closed: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5453276/does-a-radiator-have-scrap-value&highlight=scrap+radiator

I've got a combination that I need to replace this year, most are aluminium which I realise won't raise a fortune - so am happy to leave them out for the Sunday scrap fairies - but also a heavy iron one which I suspect could be worth something. Its so large I doubt I could lift it. Having said that every penny counts atm so I am willing to do some unskilled grunt work should I need to.

WWYD in this position?

Last year, I got £25 for twenty old iron radiators, plus about half as much in weight of other junk metal, if that helps. But, I have a trailer...

    So little return.

You will spend more on fuel taking it to the scrappies than you will get for it, it's worth bout a pound.

Copper is worth keeping, iron isn't unless you can fill a van.

Seems like the trick is, get someone else to use their fuel moving it around. You'll realise more than a quid:

Aluminium is probably going to be worth more than the iron!

Googling scrap metal prices it seems:

    Aluminium is worth 40p/kg
    Cast iron/steel 10p/kg
    Brass (the valves) 275p/kg

It may be worth taking the lot to a scrap metal dealer - if you pass one on your way somewhere? and can get it in/out of your vehicle OK.
Alternatively a local recycling centre will take them and the scrap value should help towards the running costs of the facility?

The scrap value is likely to be £10+, most people do have a local scrap merchant.
I have weighed things in myself, the recycling place is only a couple of miles away. I like to keep the money myself, rather than let these people that come into peoples gardens and things go missing.

At 10p per kilo best of luck lifting something that's worth in excess of £10.

We weigh in the scrap after every couple of renovations, Brass is excellent, old door handles, taps, valves etc. Copper is nearly as good, old pipes mainly. Lead is also well worth while, we find quite a bit of old lead pipes under floors. Aluminium is ok if your going with other stuff - problem is its light.

Iron and steel we give away to passing scrap men. It is not worth your while trust me. When we change cast iron guttering we give it away.

Radiators don't fetch much at all.

Well that was a quick consensus, thank you all!

I'll take whatever I can lift to the local recycling centre as its on my route out of town.

If they are the old style of cast iron radiators (as opposed to steel panel radiators), you may find they have a better value as architectural salvage. Might be worth ringing a few building reclaim suppliers to see if they are interested.
