I think part of the reason is that because people are more and more seeing cars as moveable white goods. The movement towards seeing them as a monthly expense instead of seeing the overall cost of the item means that too many people assume the wrong things. They think they can just bring it back if something doesn't work as they think it should like they would with a fridge from Curry's.
Of course, it's not quite that simple.0 -
Used car warranties are bought by car dealers with the sole function of turning a possible purchaser into a buyer. They are very unlikely to ever pay out. Actually the other function is to create confusion when there is a problem. The warranty provider says get the dealer to sort it and the dealer says it's the job of the warranty.0

Strangely I think I know the answer to that question despite never having met the op.Mercdriver wrote: »I think part of the reason is that because people are more and more seeing cars as moveable white goods. Yes new. But no-one would buy a used washing machine without at least checking it turned on. Surely.0 -

Compare the proportion of people that buy a used car to the number that buy used white goods. Far more of the former. Notice how people describe used cars as a 'new' car, even on here.
Not only that, when was the last time you bought a used washing machine? Did you take a bag of dirty washing with you to test it out?0 -
