Nationwide won't change address as no CCA

No debt problems here, just a question. We moved a few weeks back, and wrote Nationwide a letter changing address. They called us and said that they had no record of our signature, and they'd send us out a new credit agreement. Which never arrived.

Today they called us to say they couldn't do that and we'd have to go into a branch to verify our identity to change our address. I rang back and they said they don't have a CCA.

This is ringing alarm bells to me, risk of identity fraud etc does anyone have any ideas? I wonder if they are trying to hold over the change of address to get us to sign a new CCA. we don't owe much and we could pay it off right away, but does this give us any bargaining power?

  • No it means they do not have a verifiable signature on their database and wish to update their records.
To do this they need evidence under the Money laundering guidelines - for all we know you could be a terrorist!!!

No debt problems here, just a question. We moved a few weeks back, and wrote Nationwide a letter changing address.

I moved recently and wrote to all my banks etc to inform of change of address. Nationwide, ING and Orange, were still posting bills and statements to my old address two months later.

I asked Nationwide how they could let this happen, in the days of indentity fraud etc but got a very laid back answer something along the lines of 'oh these things happen'. Great to know they are doing their best to keep my details secure.

Lloyds said that the signature on my change of address form did not match that on the account, so I would have to go into a branch with some ID. I just signed the form again and posted it, and they changed the address. I must have got the signature right the second time.
  • You'd be amazed how many people sign things differently or nosey wifes sign for them then cry when it goes wrong

I check signatures on a daily basis and its amazing how many people dont notify of significant signature changes or think the banks are wrong not to accept any signature or their wife doing it for them

Simple solution sign properly and make sure your mandates/agreements are upto date
  • I made a visit to my local branch before I moved & did the change of address there in person, they had a letter to my new address the day I moved in confirming the change.
