Skylight Studios??

Just had a phone call / message saying I've won a skylight studio comp. In the west end.

I cant remember entering, but Im worried that its a con since its a luxury day at the studio, but then Im going to have to go and pay for any photo's anyway.

anyone had any dealings with them?

hi.. my friend 'won' one of these sessions.. i went with her cos she could take someone.. we had our makeovers which is someone doing your make-up and styling your hair then we had our photos done.. which was a giggle.. anyway my friend ended up buying all her photos £300!!! i refused to buy one and they were a bit funny about it but no real pressure, i dont know how they would have dealt with it if neither of us had bought any. we had a really good day out though, and they do say you are not obliged to buy any pics.. sam x

I also got a call, was worried cause they wanted a deposit and the lady on the phone really couldnt speak very good english, sounded like a call centre, she was quite rude when I declined and said 'what have you got to lose etc etc', well the deposit for one thing and probably another £300 for the pics or my sanity spending a day being sold photos of me looking like I have a broom shoved somewhere nasty !!

DO NOT do it. I honestly think that you should not. They called me the other day and they caught me at a bad time so i wasn't thinking straight and i gave them my bank details and stupidly agreed to the whole thing. Looked it up later as i couldn't at the time and found out that many people agree that it is not as amazing as they make it out to be, they make you pay for the photos at a stupid price afterwards and it all just sounds like a total sham. I'm trying to get my money back but as i thought, i've been getting answer phone for a few days now...but that might be because it's a weekend, so i don't knw and i'll try again on monday. I changed my bank account details just incase they decide to use my bank again without me knowing because some people have said that they have taken out more money than they were meant too..so i'd be careful and never give bank details out on the phone...i've learnt from my mistake.

Also, i realsed that they decided to ring me on a Friday evening so that i wouldn't be able to phone the bank straight away to close my account or stop the transaction going through.

If they ring me again, i swaer to god i will not be happy. I'll tell them to put it where the sun doesn't shine.

apparently you don't get a free lunch like they say and it doesn't last as long as they say.

You're all better off booking your own photoshoots with a local photographer of your own.

It's all just a big way of making money. If you won the competition they why do they need a deposit. Beeps.

PLUS, they put so much make up on you people say that it doesn't even look like you, and the photo's arent that great.

i booked it for Augest and it will probably cost a bomb getting down there, and London is huge so i doubt i'd find the place anyway.

    it's stupid.

tell them where to put it and hang up on them.

    whatever it takes.

    honestly.

Ive had one of these calls too. I think they got my number through Plum Prizes or some such site which I shant be using anymore.

I got lots of pressure and was told to sound excited!!!!! They told me I had won a makeover for myself and a friend. We would be treated like stars apparently......

Anyway after fighting to get this guy off the phone for ages, and him not giving in, I finally said look Im not interested and put the phone down. Two days later they ring again! I said Ive already spoken with one of your colleagues and Im not interested, please do not call again.

Seems to me they just hook you in and make money from the photos they hope you are going to buy. Yes these photos will probably be great and very flattering but its not a "true win" as you have to pay a deposit up front.

Unless you are prepared to part with several hundred pounds albeit for some lovely photos I would steer clear. Best to organise this sort of thing yourself when funds permit and with a studio where you have seen their work.

As a footnote Ive had nothing but troublesome phonecalls since entering comps on plumprizes so shall be avoiding them in the future at all costs.

    Hope this helps someone.
  • I went to the photoshoot. They did our hair and make up rubbish..nothing special. The photos were ok, but no way worth the amount they were offering!! no one should be paying over £15 for a good photo print.
I didnt buy any, they were really grumpy about it and tried to push us into purchasing. It also took about 100 phone calls to get my deposit back, because they dont give it back on theday!
  • hi ive had a call from this company but i missed the call. did they say to anyone that you would recieve tickets? because it was a man who left the message saying id have to ring him back to get the winning tickets.
  • Hi I am new to forums so forgive me if I make any faux pars.

I have also had this call from skylight studios, I had to pay to secure my appointment £45 per person and there are 3 of us going, They promised I would get all my money back when we turn up for our appointment we have been given 6 months to make our visit and we have decided to go in Feb '09.

A friend of mine has been on a similar makeover photo shoot and she did warn me the the photo's will probably be expensive but suggested we take a digital camera and when they leave the room so you can change outfits take some picks of your own!!! Not sure if I have the balls to do that but we shall see.
  • I just got a voicemail from a guy at Skylight studios saying I had won free tickets to a photoshoot. I think it was from a competition I entered on Plum Prizes or another questionnaire website like that. I didn't realise it was in London - I live in Edinburgh so won't be going.

My Dad got me a photoshoot and makeover for my 20th birthday anyway with a photographer in Edinburgh. The tickets for it aren't expensive but the prints are extortionate because they're taken by a professional photographer. I bought 5 prints which cost me something around £150 but they were fantastic and definitely worth the money. These places usually offer you a free print and then you can buy more if you want, but you shouldn't be pressured into buying anything and I would say being made to pay a deposit as well sounds a bit of a sham!
