Which new card for Google Pay in stores

after I've had a few problems with Barclays and their contactless mobile payments system...
current problem is that it goes through om my mobile all correct, but the retailer declines the payment.
I then use the same physical card to pay and is always accepted.

What cards are good to get to use for store payments using Google Pay?

I had a thread about 2 years ago about this, and somehow the issue with Barclays got solved. but I've had issues since.

this thread is not to discuss if/why to use Google Pay or not.

it's so I have an alternative to Barclays to use on my mobile.
I have another app that stores various store cards and my works discount card too.
and it is more convenient to use mobile NFC payments on TfL
I don't have to fumble around with my wallet.

thinking that I'd just set up an automated payment to pay the card off each month.

Most UK cards will work - choose one from the list at https://support.google.com/pay/answer/7351534

@gt94sss2 I've seen that list before.
wouldn't know where to begin picking from that list, which is why I've started this thread.

If you don't already have a card for overseas spending then go for the Halifax Clarity, which will work with Google Pay.

Don't think I'll ever go abroad from the UK.

Any of the credit cards should work equally well with Google Play.

If you don't bank with Barclays, ask your bank for a credit card if they are on the list.

Otherwise, try one of the following - all of whom you don't need to have a current account with to get a credit card from:

    - TSB
    - MBNA
    - Lloyds
    - Halifax
    - Natwest

@gt94sss2 I do bank with barclays, but looking for an alternative to their mobile NFC payments system, which is Google Pay

@No_6 I have gone through everything on my mobile (Android)
screen shows transaction completed and the value of it. and the retailer declines it.
same card that is linked in the banking app and android, when used physically without my mobile works and is accepted by the retailers.

Do you intend switching bank if you aren't happy with Barclays?
If you get someone to refer you to Nationwide you'll get £100 for switching to them. When I applied they offered me a credit card as part of the application process, which meant I only had one hard search. I use both their credit card and debit card with Google pay with no problems.

If you are going to be using Google Pay a lot on your phone then it might make sense to associate it with a cashback card (but always remember to repay the balance IN FULL every month)

As long as you are otherwise happy with Barclays there is no need to switch banks for a new credit card. In fact, it can be useful to have cards from several banks just in case one of them has problems with their systems.
