Primus

I have just changed from BT to primus for my home phone.
By adding 18185 to all my calls does this still give me free evening and weekend calls.

Did you sign up to Primus Saver Option 2 that has no charge to it?

Do you still have BT line rental?

Assuming the above is NOT what you have.

You would only use 18185 during the day if Primus allow you.

As BritBat says, 18185 is the prefix to use for daytime UK 01/02/03 calls (5p each, regardless of duration).

For a full answer to your question(s), you need to tell us:

(1). Have you handed over your line rental to Primus or do you still pay line rental to BT?

(2). If you still pay BT for line rental, exactly what package are you on with Primus?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I still have BT line rental. What my query is if i log into my phone memory all the numbers with the 18185 prefix does this still qualify for free evening and weekend calls.
  • If i prefix all my numbers in my phone memory by 18185 does this still qualify for free even ing and weekend calls.
I still pay line rental to BT

If you pay line rental to BT (BT Together Option 1) but have signed up for Primus Saver Option 2 CPS (with or without the recommended Penny Mobile 2 add-on), you get free evening and weekend UK 01/02 calls of up to 90 minutes. There is no 'qualification' as such (apart from having opened a Primus A/C).

CPS (Carrier PreSelection) means that, although you keep your BT landline, pay 'line rental' to BT (BT Together Option 1 is the minimum) and your incoming calls still arrive on BT (so Caller Display, 1471* and 1571* work normally), you will have opted to have the BT exchange programmed so that, by default, (nearly) all your outgoing calls are sent via the CPS provider (and BT don't even 'see' the calls even though they carry the first leg).

The 'default' part of that sentence is the key to CPS. It means that, if you want, you can use a prefix to send an individual call via another provider (i.e. override the CPS programming for a single call). For example, using just a 1280 prefix will send that call out via BT, using just a 18185 prefix (not 128018185) will send that call out via www.18185.co.uk and so on.

In other words, CPS allows you still to pick the best carrier for your calls even though you've opted, normally, to use one provider (e.g. Primus Saver Option 2 because of the free evening and weekend UK 01/02 calls).

    * Don't dial 3 after checking who called on 1471 or dial 0 after checking a 1571 message (even though that nice BT lady's voice invites you to do so and it seems like the easy way to return the call). If your do, BT will charge you 7½p regardless of whether the call is connected or not.

N.B. To get 'nearly free' Caller Display and 1571 from BT (i.e. rather than paying BT £1.75/month and £1/month respectively for them), you need to make at least 2 chargeable calls each month with the 1280 prefix. Because evening or weekend UK 01/02 calls of up to an hour on BT now cost 4½p each, that means you only need to spend 9p/month to qualify.

No I don't think so, if you prefix 18185 you will pay 18185 charges so during the free evening and weekend times you would not use any prefix.

The best way to manage this is with an Orchid Dialler.

    Orchid Dialler Discount

It is also good for blocking numbers like 1471, mobiles and Premium numbers from use on your line. All these can be bypassed when required using another prefix.

As you have only CPS your calls to Primus, and not moved your line rental to them.

    1. If you prefix your calls at any time by 18185 your calls will go via their network and your be charged by them accordingly.

2.If you prefix your calls at any time by 1280 your calls vill go via BT and your be charged by them.

3.If you dont prefix your calls their go via Primus Saver.
  • I'm thinking of changing over all to Primus - broadband, line rental and free evening/weekend calls... I've looked over this and 'think' it's not a bad deal as you get 90 mins on the free calls... for £23.99. Therefore - does anyone know, if one changes Line Rental from BT to another provider like Primus, can we still use the 1899, 18185 etc?

    Thanks you...

Keep your line rental with BT, and just go for the broadband and calls package.

Never wise to move line rental away from BT as only BT (& Kingston in their home area) are forced to allow you to use cheap call access providers such as 18185 and 1899.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

  • Ok BexTech thanks for that... good job I thought about reading through the forums before making the change and getting this crucial info. My year is coming to an end with Primus where I was on the agreement where we were credited so much each quarter, now I'll just have the free calls. The 90 minutes I think (?) are the best offer I have found... Thank you!

As for your 'what is and what is not'... how about this one. It's 'have' and not 'of'... for instance... I should of been more sensible...
