Bedroom im garden shed birmingham

Hello people i live in birmingham and had a question..
Things are not looking good at work and within a few weeks i may loose my job..also my nephew might get laid off also..
My nephew has asked could he put a decent size shed in my back garden ,insulate, and have his bed in there and tv and playstation..use my house facilitiies like bath and cooking and toilet,i own the house..
Unfortunatley i have the wicked witch from the wizard of oz living next door to me,she might and probably would grass me upto birmingham city council..
Is there anything wrong with a bed in a shed..with armoured cable electicity done by a proper sparky of course..and insulated and sound proofed..
Thanks people for any replies..

Have a look at "micro homes" and "tiny houses" (as an example - http://mobilehouses.co.uk/). Most of them sidestep planning & building regulations, but you'd still need to check with the council to ensure compliance with local rules. A basic shed, even insulated, could get you in to trouble unless you have gone through the proper planning process.

I've seen those tiny houses and wonder why they don't just buy a static caravan instead.

I would have thought it would be illegal to charge money, but if someone wanted to live in a shed? Not suggesting it just wondering what if you pitched a tent? How long could someone sleep in it before it became the councils business? Caravan would be ideal, pity about the access.

Just another thought - would they charge you band A council tax for the shed??

Many possible pitfalls, depending on the specifics of the situation .... consider planning permission/ Building Regs/ Inland Revenue/ inadvertent benefit fraud.

You would each need to declare your home address, household income and/ or number of adults in the household to claim state benefits (inc. council tax reduction or single person discount).

Anything used for sleeping in needs planning permission you would get away with it until your friendly witch drops you in it, then if you managed to get planning it would have to meet current building regs.

Could you rig up a gazebo between the house and the shed so she can't see your nephew coming and going. Mind you, he'd have to wear headphones in the shed otherwise she would hear the games console/TV.
