Credit Card Declined?

Hi

I'm going through an application form for something, and one of the questions asks:

"Had a credit or store card application declined in the last 10 years?"

If Yes, how many times.

How can I even start to find this information out?

I will have, as I an quite a keen points collector - avios etc, and apply for cards quite a bit, or have done in the past - and had them declined because a certain time frame hasn't passed since I cancelled the last etc...

Its the 'number' I'm struggling to work out?

Thanks

An estimate would be ok - one, five times, every day for the last 10 years?

Hmm, I'm not sure "An estimate would be ok"

    Thats the problem.

You could check your credit files (with all three rating agencies) and see the history of hard searches on there - that's all that this new provider will be able to do to validate your answer, so as long as you're consistent with what your credit files say then there shouldn't be an issue....

It would be, given there is no definitive way of verifying the answer,

Its not an application for another CC. Its for some government clearance.

"Ever consolidated debt onto a new financial arrangement?" - Would you take the wording in this to mean an IVA or simply taking advantage or CC Balance transfers?

They could only see searches made in the past 1 or 2 years (depending on cra) and match them against open/closed accounts so hardly verifiable over 10 years?

Well, as you can't even begin to estimate the number of credit card applications you have made that have been declined and you apparently have an ongoing debt situation that you need to keep kicking from one card to another, you certainly don't seem like the sort of person who should be granted whatever government clearance you are seeking.
  • Harsh, given he's said that he didn't know whether an estimate was sufficient, not that he couldn't do it. And he's not mentioned anything about a debt problem.

OP, there's a box at the end of the financial section which asks if you want to add any further info that gives a fuller picture of your financial situation so you can explain why you're using an estimate in that
  • And you could also explain the balance transfers there as well after ticking No for that question
